Doing some searches, it appears people like the Eaton better, but only because the Aisin is inconsistently calibrated? I think I have the Eaton. Could someone verify? Thanks!

Yes, it's an Eaton.

Thanks! This was a surprise to me. First time I've seen a stock Toyota one not be an Aisin.

Mines stock and an Eaton. I believe they came on 96-97 but could be wrong.

I have a 95 with an Eaton. I drained and refilled with 10k a couple years ago.

How much do they take?

I honestly can not remember. Toolsrus is one of the experts on these. It seems like it took around 50ml

I bought some fluid for this. What's the best way to drain it and be sure I got it all out. Will much come out? Thanks!

Time, gravity, and heat.

Prop the halves up at a 45 above a glass pan or something you don't care much about, and stick it in the oven on Warm. Don't go crazy with the heat.. even though your water temp can get to 200, doesn't mean the air going through the radiator is actually that hot. Let it sit as long as reasonably possible.. (at least overnight) then use a spatula to collect and measure the amount that came out.

If you don't see evidence of leaking (wet spot on the outer perimeter) replace what came out and you are good to go.

Some advocate putting more fluid in than was installed at the factory.. Personally I'd rather have the reservoir in there and ability to freewheel (ie disengage) when warranted work as designed.

Does anyone have the link handy for adjusting the spec on these?

Or is the Eaton not adjustable?

Thanks, I thought I saw that somewhere but am having trouble finding the link now. I purchased the fluid he recommended.

My 97 LX was running hot so I tore into it. I have the Eaton (original); going to keep it but replacing all hoses, new OEM style radiator, etc. Removed the 4 torx bolts and opened the clutch up. Not sure if it is normal but the fluid was very dark. As per this thread I did the oven trick to get all the fluid out. SO How do I replace it? I don't see a fill spot just a ball bearing 'plug'. Do I remove this, tap and plug once filled?

This is a good read, may help you out.

Early 1FZ Fan Clutch (Black/Blue Hub)

I did mine last weekend and just used a heat gun to open the valve and a small bit to prop it open while it drained 37ml out over night then I checked the valve opening and closing temp and with the valve open I refilled it.

So what’s better? The Eaton, or the blue Aisin? I was thinking about swapping for the blue hub as I’m hitting temps in the 220 range on uphill climbs. I’m running about 205-210 around town in the 100+ heat Central California has to offer. After a whole bunch on searching and reading I’m guess a switch to 15k or 20k CST would likely fix my issues. @thetoyotaman what we’re your results?

the only people who think the eaton is better is the ones who have an eaton clutch. Kind of like the guys with the bus transmission.

Thought you might say that. @Tools R Us speaks pretty highly of them in past post.
