Hello all. Starting to look at the parts for the restoration and had a question on my early model (1966) oil filter housing. It appears at some point gramps or Dad repaired one of the oil lines and some of these parts aren't factory. Could you let me know which parts are factory in this shot? I attached a photo of what I have and the SOR PDF of the factory layout. I just don't know what parts I use at the bottom of the canister (bottom threads on the shaft).

Thanks for any help.

The parts circled aren't stock for the filter canister( if your using stock oil lines). Looks like your missing the top bolt, spacer #60 and maybe a washer or two. Filter kit has new rubber parts and aluminum washers in it. 04152-60060 is the oil filter kit #. I can get you a picture of how it all goes together later today, unless someone else beats me to it.

I think I got it. Awesome. So the brass fitting that isn't circled, threads into the side of the canister for the return line, I assume? I have the kit, which I'm good there and I have the (2) inner rubber washers that sit top/bottom of the canister shaft inside. Nice. This helps and I'm glad I'm not missing anything. So do I also understand that the lower line just connects directly to the bolt shaft on bottom threads, Correct?

Yes the brass fittings go on the canister and on the block, and yes line connects to bottom of bolt/shaft. I think a washer is missing that goes onto the end of the spring between the spring and rubber grommet.

Hey Jason, sorry for the confusion! The two bottom fittings that are media blasted were "loose" and just didn't make it in the pile for plating. I knew they were oil fittings (or the top is possibly fuel) and thought you might want to get them coated.

No worries Ross. All good. I think maybe they were loose in the bolts I may have sent to you and it looks like the two fittings indeed go to this assembly, so I'm only missing that collar above (in between the top bolt and the shaft). Pic from @tahoe40/45 above. I'm not sure if I have that collar or not. You don't have it up there by chance do you? The one circled in RED. I don't have it. :(

Resurrecting this thread. I changed the oil on my stock '64 fj40, and I'm seeing a leak from the bottom of the oil filter housing. What keeps oil from leaking at the bottom hose to housing interface? There is an elderly thin rubber washer that apparently is not doing the job. The SOR pic doesn't show a seal/washer in that location. The o-ring in the filter kit doesn't fit (dunno where it goes). Is there an official replacement?

Now it’s been awhile since I had mine apart and I ended up going to a modified universal oil filter assembly right at the block. But, that washer in your pic, just needs replaced. I do recall them not being identified from SOR either, but you should be able to find a replacement for that at any nut/bolt shop. I think mine was a little thicker. If I’m not mistaken the process is (when the canister is tightened, that lower spring collapses against that lower washer, creating a seal in the bottom of the canister at the bottom hole? It’s been too long :(

Thanks for following up. I have the rubber washer outside of the housing. Sounds like it needs to be inside below the spring? Maybe with the aluminum washer that's in the oil filter bag-o-goodies.

Yup- Definitely needs to inside the housing . Inside at bottom should be washer then spring. Washer up against the “floor” of the housing at the bottom, spring on top of that. . Take care

Hi guy's, what filter element are you guy's using? I can not find one for the life of me. the one I have has fallen apart and is the same as this one in the link Filter Oil Element suitable for Landcruiser F135 Petrol to 1972 - https://www.allfourx4.com.au/epages/shop.sf/en_AU/?ObjectPath=/Shops/allfourx4/Products/04152-60060
what is the part number of the filters you are using for the oil system.

I also require a filter for the air filter as mine is disintegrated, I need one for a wet air filter system.

if anyone could help that would be great thank you.

Morning @FQ15 . Here you go!

SOR (Specter Offroad)
(818) 882-1238

Oil Filter - part #026-01A ($11.93)

Air Filter - part -#012-01A ($34.98
*I think that’s the dry filter though. May need to ask them about the wet bath system.

Thank you so much :)

Looking at this thread I think Jason and Rock40 were discussing parts of the canister oil filter. Specifically the upper space collar. I am missing that part. Can anyone get me the dimensions of it (ID, OD, and length) especially the length as I’m pretty sure I can make one. Thanks for any help.

BTW I’m a first time user of Ih8mud and really a first time poster to any forum so if I’m not doing this right or my etiquette is bad, please forgive me, and correct me. Thanks. WLT

If nothing else, print that picture. Measure your top cap, then measure the pic - the ratio is your fudge factor. ID will be same as your shaft (plus some clearance), OD and length are found using your fudge factor.
