I spent about an hour searching, maybe my search skills are inadequate, but has any body done a rear disc conversion on a 40 using discs with a drum in them for the ebrake? I believe it would require going to 16" or 17" wheels but I don't know what else is involved. Neither of my trucks has provision for the tcase ebrake and the '83 has Monte Carlo rear discs and calipers, thus no ebrake.

never seen it on an FJ40 but on plenty of Ford junk and they had 15" wheels. Thinking about this it would space the rear wheels outward the thickness of the 'hat' on the rotor b/c that's where the drum e-brake is located so equally spacing on the front via wheel spacers would be needed.

If you have a split case I think it would be less hassle to do the kit on the rear output of the TC, but they don't give that thing away. Other options one could consider are a line-lok, parts from the rear of an FJ60, minitruck/Hilux or later-model FJ40, all which incorporate that function. Back in the day we used line-loks on juice-brake drump trucks and they worked fine.

This might be a cheaper solution. It is off a jeep web site, you should be able to see the pictures without having a login. The setup at the bottom is cool, looks easy to do and no reason could not also be done on a fj40. brake line goes through a proportioning valve and slave cylinder, so while you push or pull the ebrake it puts pressure in the line setting the brakes on. Who knows maybe someone has already done it on an fj40, it is a generic part not a jeep part.
