how will the toyota four speed, sbc 350, and 4:11 gears work together? i heard that a 350 with the 4:11s wont work to good together...

Where did you 'hear' that from??

Hi All:

On the street/highway that combo would work pretty well, IMO.

On the trail, for mild off-road stuff it would be O.K., but some lower gearing would be helpful for rougher trails.

Regards,

Alan

Knowing the tire size you plan to run will help. IMO, the v8 will allow a larger selection of tire diameters while still maintaining driveability. There is nothing inherently wrong with a v8 and Toyota 4 speed and 4:11 gears.

350, 4.11, 33" tires work well for me. Been 14 years now.

26yrs for me with that combo. last 2 with 3.73:1's and much more streetable. It's amazing what one more tooth on a pinion gear will do.

i was talking with a guy that i know and he said that with a v8 and 4:11s it wouldnt drive very well. thats what happend with his lc. at least thats what he said. im running 35" by 12.5" tires.

another quick question. what kind of gas mileage would i get with the sbc, toyota four speed, and 4:11 gears

Yea, that's a quick question but don't plan on a quick or straightforward answer.

I'd plan on 8-12MPG with a carb, a little better maybe with FI. Depends on many factors as I'm sure you can realize. These trucks are as aerodynamic as a barn door.

Invariably someone will chime saying 'I'm getting 23'.

Howdy! Kinda a vague complaint. What did the rig fail to do that he expected? Did it rev too high on the hiway, did not not crawl slow enough on the trail, did it not get the MPG he expected, was it too noisy? ETC. I've built two rigs this way with 35" tires, and I would do it again. John

x2. "wouldn't drive well" sounds more like a handling complaint which I would not tend to think was a problem with a v8 vs. stock 6.

It would be interesting to know what he was expecting and then what he felt he had when it was done.
