Sorry my post was confusing, I wont be in the Maze, too far for this trip. Wish I was as your trip sounds great! I have a meeting in GJ so I am hoping to talk my wife into going then taking a few days in Moab/Canyonlands area over a few days. I'll shoot you a PM when/if the time comes and may ask for a bit of local intel as well.

I think my buddy figured he had to out do me since I trailed my M416 down Rose Garden Hill a few years earlier. I do think Rose Garden is a bit tougher head to head but the dark is a complete game changer so he has the trailer title in our club.

CB. Is that a CB antenna I see on your GX?

Neg, thats a HAM mount on the fender.

I have a mag mount for cb (seen on roof in recent Canyonlands camping trip)...in time i may put the same mount and get a firestick on pass side for perm cb antenna mount.


CB is pretty lame for distance, basically line of sight. I went through the coms stages like most do, started with cb now have ham. I haven't done my ham cert yet, so for now I'm limited in which frequencies i use, but that's also mostly just when I'm with another buddy.
I pulled the cb out for elephant hill because this (X-terra) buddy doesn't have ham and he'd just gotten his cb set so I pulled mine out of storage for that weekend.

Did a quick (aka 4.5 hour ) run on 7-mile rim trail last weekend to stretch out a buddy's new suspension on his Pro4X

We contemplated the sneak bypassing wipe-out hill, to drop into wipeout hill trail, but backed off and came out the standard 7mile route to Mill Canyon way.

Day one, Moab to Maze Overlook (aka 8.5 hours)

Green river to Horseshoe junction/robbers roost kiosk: circa 1.5 hours;
Horseshoe junction/robbers roost kiosk to Han(solo) flat ranger station: circa 30-40 min;
Han(solo) flat ranger station to Maze overlook: circa 3 hours.
Moab to Mace Windu Overlook (via Green River NOT hwy 95 towards Hanksville) : circa 8.5 hours.

I'm excited for this trip report. You always document well, but this is also my dream trip. I had the Maze in mind when I picked up my GX.

Monday 11/19:
Mace Windu overlook to Standing Rock, circa 30 miles, drive time 6 hours.
Wives hiked the 8 mile trail passing the harvest scene petroglyph panel.

Dads hiked from chimney rock down to the harvest scene, then returned (via same route wives took to get to Standing Rock) to The wall.

The Maze (cont'd)

day 4, 11/21. Standing Rock to The Doll House #3: circa 1 hr drive.

Moms embarked on a 10mi hike (water and shot canyons, confluence overlook past beehive arch to the Doll House) while dads broke camp (2 hrs) drove to the Doll House (1 hr) and set camp (2 hrs).

emptied my gas can (Sceptors are aMAZEing! 5 gallons in 1 minute!!) which brought me back up to nearly 3/4 full
