Does anybody know this 1970 40? Thoughts?

Nope. No new info.

I see that you keep expressing interest in the older 40's. '73 is a good year because, unlike the '69 and '70 you have expressed interest in on this thread, '73 has the dual circuit brake cylinder. Prior to '70-71 the master is a single circuit and if only one wheel cylinder fails you lose ALL brakes. I wouldn't drive my kids around in that. The dual setup is much safer. The '69-70 uses smaller brake fittings that are impossible to find anymore so converting a pre-70 system to a dual setup has it's challenges. It can be done but it ain't easy.

The '69 and '70 years are column shift. Some folks like the "old timeyness" of that but I've driven them and I am not a fan. Floor shift is the way to go IMO. Also fewer linkages to wear out or break.

Thanks for this. Big help!
I have a '66 Chevy C10 that shifts on the column and that is enough for me!

People sometimes scoff when you point out the bezel is upside down, but in my o/a 3 months of shopping for FJ40s, I've seen an extremely strong correlation between upside down bezels and the probability that the FJ40 is a pile of crap with shiny paint covering up problems the seller is lying about.

I think it may have been good to have had this sold... One thing that concerned me was the fluid marks in the middle of this rig. (One of the pics looking up under from ground level) Just above the middle skid plate that is there. I had the same issue... Turned out the fuel line rubbed or wore a slim opening in the top where it sat against underside of the back seat pan.
Anyway mystery fluid marks like that can be a little scary if not addressed.

My vote is to stay active on this board, as well as your local/nearest cruiser club and buy within. More info and trust IMHO.

Just to add to this info--- I have an early 71, without going out to look at it, I think it is either a Feb or April build date. Anyway, I'm not sure of the exact date they went to the dual circuit masters, but at this time in their production they had dual circuit masters, as that is what is on my 40.

My 10/69 production 70 model still has the single circuit master. Believe 7/70 is when the booster and dual circuit started.

Good info LITP. So I have one of the earlier dual circuit systems then.

FWIW I agree with taking a hard look a the @cruiserdan rig. That's a good clean honest rig at a great price and you are buying from a mud legend :)
I have a 69 survivor very similar to dan's and love it. You can always upgrade to dual circuit, booster, and disc brakes over time if you want.

I have a 7/70 that does indeed have dual circuit master.

@JohnnyBighead you come to the right place for advice.. these guys will tear apart anything misrepresented and will give straight facts about what it should be priced at.. I actually love reading through post like this, I am in awe at the details these guys find. .. it makes me chuckle inside to know that misrepresenting scammers get called out. Good luck and Learn as much as you can

Yeah, it is a big time help for somebody like me. I am sure it can be annoying for the seasoned guys, but I am so thankful they take time to help!

I don't know a single experienced Cruiserhead that doesn't relish passing on their knowledge to others. I've found them to be the single most helpful auto enthusiast group around.

@120mm I couldn't agree with you more.. every single old timer and cuiser head is more than happy to give you info... however it's not always what you want to hear. Lol

The biggest mistake people make is telling someone what they want to hear instead of telling them what it really is.

:)
