I was replacing my alternator and removed the lower hose to help with the access. There was just a little bit of coolant that came out of the heater. I pulled one T first and it looked good. Went ahead with the other one and it broke in 2 spots. Now that they are both dried off, one is all brown and the other has brown spots. I have 218,000 miles so it was past time if they were original.
I don’t know if I got lucky but I would say that the replacement was easier than an oil change. Definitely easier than replacing the alternator.

I just bought all new hoses & clamps from the dealer I don’t think 96136-52101 is right either, so went back and bought the other two sizes to have just in case. But according to the Toyota website 96134 - 42100 & 90467 - 19022 don’t fit my 2000, I called a different dealership to double check and they say they would have sold me the same parts the first one did. Should find out next week which one works best
I had the same problem. Replaced the T hose. You can see from the picture from before, the hose and T are leaking pretty bad. Never changed. Currently has 178k miles.

But this has nothing to do with heater Ts.
but this does...... how to make the best of the PIA job....... use an insulating board - can get right into the job without strain.....

Now that's one expensive heater TEE job.
Noticed a slight coolant smell recently, some slight seepage and a little bit of crusted red coolant at the Tees. Does this mean the hoses need replacement as well or am I ok just replacing the tees? Mine is a relative baby - '06 with 105k miles
You should be OK just replacing the tees.
A lot of us replace the hoses too while we have it apart.

The 80 series also came with a brass Tee's. Somewhere along the way, it became plastic or maybe just as a replacement part, I'm not sure.
My guess why the 80 heater Tee lasts and the 100 doesn't? The 80 uses a conventional water heater valve that stops the flow of hot coolant circulating through the heater core(s). So if you stop the flow, you stop the Tee from heating up as much.
On the 100, the hot coolant never stops circulating through the Tee and through the heater cores. They have dampers after the heater core(s) to control the cabin heating. More precision I suppose. The heater Tees are disintegrating fro the inside out.
Now take a look at the 1st gen Sequoia's. Same engine as the 100. No known history of heater Tee problem yet it uses the same exact heater Tees (in RED). However, the heating system uses the "old style" heater valve (in GREEN) which stops the coolant flow.

For the die hard OE parts folks, if you wanted OE brass Tees, you would search high and low for the near unobtanium <87209-60290>
This is 80 series heater T assembly. Remove the hoses and clamps and you are left with OE brass T's with the perfect dimensions.

I am attempted to buy one to check out, have you or anyone you know used these on the 100 series?
I looked them up and they are pretty expensive ---but if they are an exact fit they may last a lifetime and can be changed with new hoses every 10 years or so- so the price could be worth it.
But I have not seen any thread where a member has used them to be sure they are indeed an exact fit.
Oh how I have done this exact thing on some other PIA engines.

Me neither. There is a chance I'm drawing a false conclusion. I'm extrapolating it from the FZJ80 parts catalog.
87209 is the hose assembly pictured above <87209-60290>
Right below it, 87248C, is the heater T by itself... which comes up as the same <87248-60460> that we use on the 100.
Amayama lists the assembly at $34/ea plus shipping. They show them in stock but their website isn't always real time.
The lowest price I found for 8720960290 is about $70. May be worth the price if it fits and is a lifetime part. 4-seasons is a bit small in leg diameter and Omega is a bit too large. But both of these are way less than half the price of the brass. And so it goes. I may give it a try since at this point I am pouring money into the truck.

If you have read my other thread about wishing I had read the Tee FAQ before I started on installing new hose clamps on my 4-season clamps--you will see that my truck is currently sitting without a driver's side T installed. I want to get a better Tee as soon as possible to see if my standpipe which I may have manhandled removing the 4-seasons Tee is leaking.
If it is leaking I have a much bigger job than replacing Tees. I want to know as soon as I can so I will sacrifice some money for time.
You may be able to buy them from 80 series owners who have done rear heater delete but you may need to find 2 owners because there is only one heater-T in the 80 series. It would be nice to find them from a multi 80s owner.
I'm scouring the globe to find an owner right now with 20,000 dead 80 series. I'll be right back...
