My 1994 80-series heater Ts were plastic too. I changed all those on that truck back then.
I mentioned earlier, somewhere along the way it changed. When you changed it, do you remember what kind of clamps it had on it? Were they OE like this?My 1994 80-series heater Ts were plastic too. I changed all those on that truck back then.
Ahhhh ohhhhMy 1994 80-series heater Ts were plastic too. I changed all those on that truck back then.
We're pullin' for ya.So was the change from brass to plastic-- which would make sense based on the fact that the 100's have plastic. I will have to assume I just ordered a cheap plastic T with two expensive hoses I cannot use.
I guess I missed the caveat that Toyota eventually changed to plastic on the 80's- I jumped too soon.
Well, that last picture is dated/ordered May 2019.... so....My guess is it will come as such.
I have the stainless one, and have been using it for more than 2 years. I don't even worry about it anymore.OK-- got the OEM 100 series factory Tee and the OEM (updated) 80 series brass Tee today.
Both the plastic and the brass Tees have the same ODs (17mm/14mm-18.5mm/15mm bulb end) but the brass has about 2.5mm larger IDs. This is because the brass is pretty darn thin.
I would rather use the Omega stainless over the plastic or the thin brass but I will go with the brass. I think it will be a big pain to push in the 3/4" (19mm--21mm bulb end) Omega into a set of fresh OEM hoses.
But what clamp to use. For some reason, on the 80's, the factory used the roll band clamp on the top legs and a spring clamp on the bottom. I assume because the top hoses come with the T and it would make for bulky packaging to use the large spring clamps.
Even though the brass walls are pretty thin I am going with my new spring clamps on all legs-- any thoughts from the forum?

I installed the 4-seasons last year. No complaints.
When I pull the intake manifold to service the top side and replace the starter, I may move to the Omega just because I like the design a little better. That's the only reason for touching the Ts at this point.

I'm sure both the Omega and OE Brass Tee will last a lifetime but I prefer the brass. Two piece design and has better flow.... and exudes craftsmanship! lol. Both the plastic and the brass Tees have the same ODs (17mm/14mm-18.5mm/15mm bulb end) but the brass has about 2.5mm larger IDs. I would go with the OE spring clamps on all three ends.
100TD makes a good point. Change the hoses... and if you cut the hoses, you won't have to deal with the position of the OE clamp on the T-fitting nor bits and pieces of plastic breaking off into the hose.
You said old school so I'm guessing you went with the worm drive clamp and not the constant torque type? If so, you might want to consider the later type for this application. The hose will eventually shrink and get compressed. The constant torque clamp will accommodate that.

You should state which Tees you are looking for?Anyone know if the tees are generally available at auto parts stores? I can't seem to get the right search terms. Local Toyota dealer asking $13 each and doesn't keep them in stock.
