DIY: Replacing heater hose pipe T's *important* (10 Viewers)

I did them on the '03 LX. I had the hot side break one T while I was pulling things out. Not bad for a truck with 170k on it. Using both small and large needle-nose vise-grips on the clamps helps tremendously. Been a while since I did the '03 TLC. It's a one banana job, but scrapes your knuckles up.

Hey guys.

Ordered up the brass T's and finally replaced the plastic T's.

My 2000 LC has 214k odo miles, more like 235k real miles (been running 33s since 100k).

The hot side T crumbled when removing. Even when I went to start and grabbed the hose, coolant started spraying everywhere. I removed the other lines to ensure I retrieved all the pieces.

The cool side had no issues.

I used the lay on the intake method and it took about 45 minutes. I would recommend buying new clamps as the hardest part was reusing the original clamps and pulling over the small hoses on the bottom of each T.

1 banana job. Highly recommended sooner than later.

One year update: The Four Seasons 84543 tees recently started seeping. I was not super impressed with the undersized diameter that required compressing the hoses beyond typical. This time I replaced them the upsized diameters of Omega 35-H1953 B07CZSQZ56. It's a bit tighter fit, so I lubed them with silicone grease and they popped right on. The Omega tees are a superior fit, definitely going to be zero leaks with these. If anyone is thinking about replacing their tees with metal, 100% go with the Omega.

While in there I also swapped plugs to Denso 4702 (getting ~2 mpg higher now), cleaned the throttle body, and re-torqued the valve cover gaskets which I could start to smell under full load, the bolts were basically only finger tight.

It is a pleasant surprise how easy it is to work on these Land Cruisers.

I do like those Denso IK20TT (AKA Denso 4702). For one I don't think anyone can yet counterfeit the 0.4mm Iridium Center Electrode.
I've seen the counterfeit and to me, easy to spot.

Because Denso is an OE supplier, and out of their list of approved plugs the Iridium TT plugs are the best for durability and economy.

Lexus LX 470 2002 . I´m in Costa Rica , do not need a heater, have quite enough heat here. Could I just plug the hoses, and if so where? Don´t need problems from plastic tees or heater hoses leaking or disintegrating and burning up my motor, would just rather plug off the system and fugettaboutit. I´ve searched the internet to try to find the flow and routing of the six hoses and two tees between the firewall and the motor, haven´t seen anything that makes sense. I just want to eliminate the whole heater hose, tee system as close to the block as I can without creating any problems. Thanks

Did you adjust the gaps on any of these? What gaps are you setting?

We're getting off topic, but the Denso twin tips are pre-gapped, same with the Iridium you're not supposed to attempt to modify the gap.

All new plugs need gap and alignment inspected. I have found some Denseo TT needed gapping. Sometime tips misaligned also. For awhile I found average of 1 in 4 in need. Lately 1 in 16.

I personally would rather follow the manufacturer's written instruction, and have never had any issues doing so. Right from Denso's website: "Do not change the gap on platinum, iridium or twin tip spark plugs, as the fine electrodes may get damaged."

So what do you do when you find Ground Electrode bent, knocking alignment and gap off. Ship them back?

I had 16 (4 set of box of 4) of Japanese made that came to via Mexico. Every single one was perfect and used a plastic tip guard. Been asking that ebay seller for 2 years for more, notta!.

This should not happen but it does.
Not until recently I'd see 1 in 4 USA assembly which use a cardboard tip guard. The Ground Electrode were bent. These where all from WorldPac (Advance Auto)
Lately only 1 in 16 USA assembly bent.
These bends, have been minor. But visible with the eye and feeler gauge!

These bends, have been minor. But visible with the eye and feeler gauge!

I definitely do an inspection of them before installation. If any of them are bent, damaged or out of spec; yes absolutely I would return them. For me, the auto parts stores are 2 miles down the road.

Are you saying you "had to" re-gap all 8, because all 8 were out of spec. That is highly unusual. I don't mind re-gap/straightening a few plugs Ground Electrode . But if all 8 bad, I'd be on the phone with Denso and returning them. It's very important to buy for trusted source. Many bootleg sellers out there.

I used the spec out of ALLDATA and they were not within spec. I don't think I have ever seen a plug out of the box that I didn't have to adjust the gap some. Every vehicle runs unique gaps. Been adjusting gaps for 50 years. Don't think I have seen any that didn't need to be re-gapped.
