DIY: Replacing heater hose pipe T's *important* (2 Viewers)

Cross-post from my build thread.

I had Steve at RPM in Monrovia look at my heater T's a few weeks ago. He thought they looked OK. It's possible they were replaced by the PO as the clamps on the vertical hoses are not OEM.

I decided to replace T's, hoses and clamps. I used the Four Seasons T's and silicon hoses from HPS.

Before.

I razor-bladed the old hoses off and then assembled the new sets.

Here's what they look like installed.

What HPS kit did you use?
I want to do that kit, but I see there is a kit with radiator and heater hose kits. One is about 130, other about 230.
Do the Toyota parts fit the LX470 and LC? I checked on Lexus parts website and it shows one hose not fitting with the part number is typed in. But In the Toyota shows that it fits.

I can get all 6 heater hoses and tees, pcv valve grommet, pcv valve and fuel filter in engine cmprtmnt for $174 shipped from toyotapartsdeal. I usually just take my print out of the parts including tax and shipping to my local Toyota dealer and they price match everything. And I get it next day.

I got the more expensive one but haven't swapped out the radiator hoses yet. I assume the cheaper one has what you need for the t's.

Sorry - I don't know about the OEM Toyota parts.

Ok so there’s different parts numbers since this post was started. I’m ordering my Toyota parts for my 01 LX tomorrow.
I think I have all the correct part numbers that I need. If anyone can please help me confirm it would be appreciated.

Heater Hose and Tee parts reference;

2 - 87248-60460 tee’s

1- 87245-6A180
1- 87245-6A190
1- 87245-6A201
1- 87245-6A210

1- 99556-20200

These are the part numbers from earlier in the thread that still show up in the online parts store I use. Fred Anderson Toyota, Raleigh NC. I bought these numbers and the install was straight forward.

I’m not aware of any difference between a LX and a Land Cruiser heater hose/Tee replacement.

The last two part numbers show they don’t fit on both the Lexus and Toyota parts website and it shows me two that do with different part numbers. Damn don’t want to order them now and get the wrong ones.

I’m not sure if there are any difference between the LX and the Land Cruiser. You can go back a few pages in this thread and find pictures of the hose/tee assemblies on a workbench. You can compare the picture to your truck to see if everything looks the same. The tees are the same, so the hose diameters are the same between the trucks. The horizontal legs are one size and the vertical legs are slightly smaller. I wish I could give you a definitive answer.

I typed in the part number ending in 6a800 and it shows it to fit 03-07.
I’m so confused.

Has anyone replaced the rear heater hoses @Jeepster09 refers to in post 281 that are located near the transfer case?
Also, if so, are the part numbers (87225C and 87256A) @super90 referenced in post 313 accurate?

I already replaced the T's but want to replace those hoses when i flush my coolant and replace my radiator hoses.

Thanks

Hey everyone - great thread, however, I feel like i missed purging the system and getting rid of any potential air bubbles in the cooling system. Does anyone know how to go about that?

I am thinking let it heat up with the radiator cap off and then top off the system for any potential loss. Any objections to that?

Thanks,

To purge burp system.....Park vehicle on incline with nose in the air. Take off radiator cap. Run engine until operating temp squeezing radiator hoses to help push air out radiator. I squeeze upper hose and hold it and watch bubbles come to top an fluid go down. Seems to work.

I just replaced heater Ts on '06 LX. It has 220K miles and clamps were still turned down, as in factory style and never changed before....unless they were changed at dealer from PO and they were taught to turn clamps down like the Japanese do it. Hmmmm.

Unlike on previous heater Ts on other hundy, I used factory T's this time. They are twice the price at about $25 for two but are half as difficult to get in place and takes half as long to do it.

Looks like my PO did this once and replaced the clamps with standard screw type hose clamps

One of my Ts is leaking pretty significantly and i have new Ts to put in this weekend, but can i reuse those screw clamps or are they leaking for a reason?

I had the same situation with one of my T's. I wish I still had the OEM clamps for it. I ended up using new standard type hose clamps and was getting leaking. I dealt with it for a little while cause i didn't have time for a full fix (just topped off coolant every once in a while). I eventually bit the bullet and just ordered some constant torque clamps from McMaster-carr part number 54205K11. These are much beefier and are working well.

I think you can also get a 10 pack of similar on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009SD02VM/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I3HZSQ6XHM2TMW&colid=1DSYPA02TV43Q&psc=0

Perfect thanks!

is that the correct size in that Amazon link for the heater T pipes?

I bought two from McMaster-Carr to check sizes. I bought 54205K11 (9/16" to 1-1/16") and 54205k13 (11/16" to 1-1/4"). The smaller one should be the same size as the amazon one. That is the size I used on the smaller part of the T and I am pretty sure it would work on the bigger sides too. I think the bigger one would probably work too, but I haven't checked. I wish I had just bought the 10 pack in the first place and replaced all the non-oem clamps when I originally did the project.

is this the same for the 1998

These are the part numbers I used on my 1998.

Just replaced my T's and hoses (all with OEM), went to fire up the vehicle and i have a bad leak coming from PS firewall inlet. I've double checked the hose, tried a different clamp and indexed the position of the clamp on the hose but it is still leaking...bad. Anyone have a similar issue? Any suggestions on what to try next?

You may have distorted the aluminum pipe when you remove the original hose, especially if you used pliers on it to twist the stuck hose off.
I'd remove the clamp and hose and inspect the pipe. Or you could try your luck with a full cooling system and attempt to squeeze the clamp lightly to try and 'tweak' the pipe round and reseat.

I planned on doing these but just like everything else I have run out of time. So I asked my trusted shop for a quote to get er done..... $$500-600. I laughed, then thought wow, it really must be that big of a pain to get in there and swap out those hoses and T's
It's astonishing how varried the quotes are on this job from mechanics. My primary Toyota guy quoted me $225 (P&L). Talked to another mechanic we trust and he did it for $85 (P&L). For that price, I was happy to have him tackle it.

$500 to $600 is absurd!
