You can absolutely use OEM housing.Seeing as how it's black friday sale time at TRS, I'm looking at doing this, using the Micro D2S 5.0 as well. One thing I'm confused about is the DEPO mentions, do we have to buy new housings to do this, we can't use the OEM housings we already have?
What is the "wiring and relay harness" needed for?

ok, finally had some time to put a video together of the micro D2S 5.0 install in my depo glass housings. Light output...is amazing compared to the HIR bulb modification I had previously. I actually don't mind driving at night anymore. I would say the only other vehicle driving on the road that has "better" lighting than this is a Tesla Model 3.
I'll probably be putting together a follow up video with some tips and tricks and maybe just thoughts on overall effort vs impact.
Yeah I’m planning on making one this weekend, subscribe to my channel if you want more!Any plans of posting a follow up video? Getting ready to do my retrofit, so tips/tricks would be helpful.
It would be great if you could include a snippet of the light output from these new projectors too.Yeah I’m planning on making one this weekend
On my first retrofit, I could hear the cutoff motor being activated occasionally. Ever since then, I've always disabled the DRLs to prevent the motor from burning out.So when the lights are off and DRL's are on, not like we have a choice on this, the shutter is held open by the 5 volts running the DRL's. So far there has not been a failure and if you think about it there are many small
It's actually a small solenoid coil in there, not much different than what's in your fuel pump relay. On my first retrofit, I could hear the cutoff motor being activated occasionally. Ever since then, I've always disabled the DRLs to prevent the motor from burning out.
DRL is the high beam at low voltage but your projector is the low beam. So, not sure why the shutter is held open?I have to say I just recently did the HID/projector upgrade/modification on my 03 LC and this makes it amazing to drive at night. Before it was like, "Are the headlights on?" "Is one burned out?" I will add that I have the DRL's working and the brights are just ridiculous since now it has the OEM brights and the projectors HID shutter pulls back when the brights are on, it's 4 brights at once. So when the lights are off and DRL's are on, not like we have a choice on this, the shutter is held open by the 5 volts running the DRL's. So far there has not been a failure and if you think about it there are many small coils on vehicles that are constantly energized when the vehicle is running, i.e. relays, ABS solenoids, etc. my 2 cents.View attachment 2854242
I think because the high beam power is being used both to operate the HID shutter and the LED high beam, the DRL power will still be applying the ~5V to the shutter.DRL is the high beam at low voltage but your projector is the low beam. So, not sure why the shutter is held open?
Thanks! I thought maybe there was a logic circuit in there that flips the shutter only when low beam was on.I think because the high beam power is being used both to operate the HID shutter and the LED high beam, the DRL power will still be applying the ~5V to the shutter.
