distrib

On Coolermans page there is an FSM

For mine I set it up so the shaft slot was just after where it need to be to go in and while holding slight down pressure with my left hand I rotated the engine with the fan belt--that way I can feel it drop when it snicks into place and know it is fully seated

That is basically what Trollhole and I did this weekend a couple of times when my dizzy would not drop all the way in - worked great.

Don't forget that the distributor shaft rotates about 20-30 degrees as it drops in and engages the helical gear on the cam shaft

I can get it to drop in to where it feels like it is engaging with the oil pump shaft, however the base of the distributor (non-USA) is not seated all the way, I tried pushing, but she won't do down any further.

Then it's not in all the way. Have someone pull the distributor up and down by a 1/16 or so while you turn the crank slowly.

That or look at the rotor button and see where it is pointed to. You need the slot to almost line up with it.

here's my distrib

here's mine--I wondered at first but this was fully in the clamp marks on the side give a clue but you can crank it over with the oil filter off too if you dont want to actually start it---oil will flow up and out

it takes a sec or too to get the OP up when you start it

Here are a couple of pics of mine, not as clear as yours and does'nt look as seated as yours. Mine is a non-USA if that makes a difference. I took a rough measurement with a screw driver and it seams it should go in further. I hate to do it, but if I drop the oil pan and remove the oil pump, I should be able to install the pump once the distributer is fully seated, right?

Here you go a couple good links--the first has the FSM pics in it

Really the major concern is if you have oil pressure , for me I was comfortable with removing the oil filter and seeing it pump up through while cranking with the ignition disabled but since my sender wasnt working I got a manual gauge and installed it prior to starting---BTW it was for a 99 harley EVO motor and screwed it where the sender was (i had one in the garage)

I confirmed on Mud that you would not get pressure for the first couple secs on start then it rises up then I fired it up

Sounds like you know what you are doing on the actual work but are fretting over it--I dont think pulling the oil pan is necessary but I am sure you have heard the horror stories so what can you live with?

I think a pressure gage might help you out and calm any worries over pressure

No reason to do that.

Get a long screwdriver and rotate the oil pump a little bit one way or the other until the distributor drops into place.

Purposely turn the distributor rotor and shaft to a spot where you know it will not seat properly, and see how far up the distributor sits out of the engine block.

Then rotate the distributor shaft and rotor to where you think it will line up with the oil pump as you drop the distributor into its location and make sure that it drops in further.

Mess around with it and be patient. You will get it.

yup

pulling all that is overkill I think we are trying to say but I understand your concern

when you follow what Poser said you could maybe also scribe a line for a real positive indication---be nice if it really dropped in by like and inch eh?
