I just pulled my dizzy to replace the clamp. I also moved the crank with out the distributor in.

Can someone provide detail steps to install. My manual is vary vage and I am haveing no success.

I have it at TDC the line not the dot. Do I point the rotor to 1 spark plug or the number 1 stamped on the dissy cap.

Thanks

You line it up so that the rotor points to the #1 plug wire on the distributor cap with the engine at TDC on the compression stroke for #1. You can check this by putting your thumb over the #1 spark plug hole and checking for air as you rotate the engine. You can also remove the valve cover and verify that both valves are closed on #1. You don't want the engine on #6 compression as the distributor will be 180 degrees off.

Line up the rotor so that it starts about 20 degrees CW from where you want it to end up as the helical gear makes the rotor rotate CCW as it drops in.

Be sure to line up the oil pump slot with the end of the distributor. Double check to make sure that the oil pump drive is engaged by the distributor or you will sieze your engine on start up due to no oil pressure.

I do it with the cap off but with the rotor in place. The motor must be at TDC. Line up the oil pump slot with the #5 spark plug. Start the intsall with the rotor pointing at #4 spark plug. As you advance, the distributor shaft gear will grab the gear on the cam and rotate counter-clockwise. The rotor will end up pointing at #5 spark plug. Make certain it is all the way in and has engaged the oil pump slot.

When you first start it up, again make 100% certain you have immediate oil pressure. If not, shut it off!!! Many an F and 2F has been ruined by incorrect distributor installs.

Thanks!!!
