All this talk about bike racks, and I'm just sitting here thinking, "Man I hope benc gets some AHC compatible sliders set up."

p.s. I am the Phil Breisch on your list that you don't have a username attached to.

Hi Ben and thanks for the info. Looking forward to alum front option once (if) it becomes available.

Once you get the bandwidth, feel free to let me (us) know how much the "receiver in swing out" option might cost and the interface info (to ensure rack fits w/o interference, etc.). I would also probably run some rudimentary engineering analysis to ensure it can handle cantilevered weight vs. dynamic loads. Not a big deal in that one can always run wire cable from end of bike tray to roof rack to lower displacements (and thus stresses).

reevesci: Looks like you are using an readily available bike rack for the "bike portion" of your photo. Can you direct me to the manufacturer so I can investigate. I think I know, but just want to make sure. Plus any feedback on that end would be welcome.

I can't remember the rack mfg. My client relayed measurements I needed and I built it to those specs. I'll email him to see what mfg the rack is.

That looks like a Thule T2 rack

Hey I know I'm wanting to buy this bumper come tax time. I won't be able to get it before that. What would the time frame be if ordered beginning of Feb and should I put a deposit down maybe early January knowing I won't have final funds until mid Feb?

I'm anticipating the lead times will be much less by then as I should be caught up, I would say probably around 4 weeks but that will depend on the orders at the time. The deposit would get you on the build list so that would help. Let me know when your ready.
Thanks!

Good deal bud. Ill try and get you a deposit about 3 weeks before I expect to have the final funding then.

Here's a good reason I love these bumpers. I'm able to get on trails I never could before.

So I may have missed it but was it stated what accessories will be made for the accessory rack yet or what the accessory rack will look like or function as? I know when I get mine I'm wanting to get the bumper and the tire carrier but what I really want is the other swing out for fuel and water and be able to mount an 11lb propane tank on it.

There will be one accessorie arm with a modular ladder.
All additional accessories will atach to that swing arm and the ladder.
I personally am not a huge fan of hitch mount accessories offroad due to rattles but it could be possible to add a 2" receiver
To the arm. I'm likely going to use a roof type bike carrier that will attach to the accessorie arm.
I have countless ideas for the accessories arm and an excited to get started on it!
Ok I found this statement. Any details on the said accessories you are thinking of?

Heres what I'm wanting and let me know if this will work. 4 gallons of fuel on the tire via rotopax. 10 gallons of water on the accessory arm with an 11lb tank mounted to the accessory arm.

It should be possible but we will have to wait and see what ends up making the most sense production wise, that being said, custom accessories can be built as well.

Update,

Had a few set backs as I started putting bumpers together and found some of the small pieces were cut and bent wrong.
Problem is fixed and I'm waiting on the new parts.
It's looking like the 5 bumpers will ship out end of the month beginning of next.
The next 10 will hopfully go out by the end of December.
I should be contacting the first 5 the week after thanksgiving if all goes as planned with the laser cutter.
Thanks

Sorry Jason! Pm sent.

I am still waiting on the small parts for the first 5, I'm having a machine shop make the uhmw pads for the bottom of the swing arms and waiting on a couple small parts that were wrong from the laser cutter, (licence plate brackets and tire stand off) these parts should be ready soon but they also shoud have already been done weeks ago, I have also been dealing with the hinge manufacturer, I ordered the 40 hinges in August and finally received all the hinge parts Friday.
In the coming months I'm going to try and get more equipment to be a more self sufficient shop as the relying on others to get me thing when they say has proved
Unreliable at best, that results with me not getting bumper out when I say and I appalagize!
I understand the wait for this bumper is reaching the ridiculous stage and I'm not sure I would be as understanding as you guys if I were in your shoes!
I was under the mind set that once I was doing this full time I would have the full week to fabricate and I would pump these out quickly! I have found out very quickly that's not the case, between installs, dropping parts off for powder, picking parts up from powder, meeting with the laser cutter when parts are wrong, picking parts up from the laser cutter, picking up bolts and hardware, picking up welding supplies and returning phone calls and emails the weeks are far to short!
I'm not complaining or giving any excuses, just hopping to help you guys understand why it's taking so long.
While I'm not new to fabrication, I am new to running a business and I will get better as time goes on. I am quickly learning that if I want to keep up than I am going to need to hire some help!
Even if it's just to run around and pick things up.
I thank you guys sincerely for your patience and support!
I know it's getting old but all I can say is once you get the bumpers the ridiculous 6 month wait will be worth it!
Thanks!
Ben

Benc: Keep chuggin. In my world, I'd rather wait for quality than get something that doesn't meet my expectations (seems to happen alot these days).

Anyway, regarding the laser cut errors, are not these parts designed in CAD w. laser cut digitally driven? if so, where are the errors introduced (cad to cam translation, or...)?

Thanks man!
I'm not even sure how it happens!
It is mostly the bends that are off and I believe it's from graining the metal differently.
When the parts are cut wrong it's because they somehow end up with files from prototyping, most of the time they cannot even explain how it happens. It's frustrating to say the least!
What really doesn't make sense is with the rears I ordered 20 bumpers, some parts were correct and some were not.
Unfortunately I'm in a pretty small town and am limited on lasers cutters. There is on other shop that seams promising that I would like to give a try but they want bigger orders than I currently make.
The main reason I'm still using the shop I am now is they allow me to order 20 bumpers and they store them in their warehouse,
I can pick up and pay as needed rather than having to pick up and pay for all 20 at once.

I've heard it and keep on repeating: DO YOU WANT IT RIGHT OR DO YOU WANT IT RIGHT-AWAY?

Just do what you do and people will be glad they waited!

Hey Ben, how about any progress on the other swing arm design, is that down the priority list?
