^ that's pretty easy to do with the Thule. The trays for the bikes are adjustable. Unfortunately that's the only one I have first hand experience with.

Very curious about bike mount options as well. I watched the above video and like the idea of the receiver on the swing out. I could see it being a rattle issue for certain hitch mounts, but not with the 1-up mount as shown in the video. I have a 1-up and can attest that they lock in solidly. The issue then becomes centering the receiver on swing-out so that the bikes don't hang out beyond the side of the vehicle.

Diggin' the bumper, looks great.
I'll have to play around with it.
May not be possible with the shorter swing arms.

GoWesty makes a similar product for VW vans that carries two bikes on a short swing-out. The old Yakima attachments required 1-1/8" tubing, but their newer stuff fits just about every size/shape rack. They'll likely fit the ladder rungs without any modification. I prefer the Yakima fork carriers, they lock and rattle less than the "leave-the-front-wheel-on" variety.

Also working on getting my hardware lists together, the pic is the hardware for the swing arm only. Between all the nuts bolts and accessories such as the 7 pin plug, wire harness, bump stops, licence plate lights latch ect is about $300 worth of hardware.

Looks like 5 bumpers there being prepped for shipping...please, God (and @benc), let one of those be mine!

For those wanting bike solutions, why can't you just use the standard hitch mounted bike rack? I love my Thule T2. It comes with an extension if needed to pull it away from the rear bumper. It has an option for an additional 2 bike add-on, and the whole unit tilts down to allow for opening of the tailgate.

That's what I use now. The reason we (or at least I) want one Incorporated into the swingout is because when traveling for weeks or months and taking the bikes, it is a pain to have an extra step on top of two swingouts. plus, when camping having easy access to the tailgate for cooking on drawers is priority #1. Having them on the swingout makes them completely out of the way when open.

I am hoping that whatever design wins out, it will affect departure angles much less than receiver based mounts.

Basically, want to take the bike on all outings as it is my life boat (do a lot of solo runs, typically no further than 50 miles from some sort of civilization).

That will obviously work but it would be a whole lot more convenient to have the bikes swing out on the bumper vs having to drop the rack down every time you need in the back

Inset a receiver on one of the arms and it will allow you to remove the rack when not needed, swing open for easy access to back and also you could make a doubler receiver off the tire carrier for a neck grip so the guys can wrench on their bikes as well...

Here's one I did on a HJ61 a while back. Since I'm not building bumpers anymore... I'll share..

reevesci, That's what I'm talkin bout

benc, any thoughts on above? Also, do you have a rough estimate (or a precise one if avail) of bumper and individual accessory weights?

I am right in the middle of fine tuning my estimated load weight in support of suspension selection. Luckily, I weighed all my gear prior to loading up my '60 for my last trip, so have good idea of my personal s&%t. Just need the front and rear bumpers estimates to pull trigger. Looking at an aluminum front pumper.

benc, I saw a earlier thread (very brief search) where you mentioned an Aluminum front bumper would not be a production item, but only a custom build. Any future plans for a production engineered aluminum front bumper? (forgive me if I missed that you might have that already).

The receiver option would likely not be a good option with the slam latch and the short 3/4 length swing arms. I would have to use the more traditional style swing arm with a clamp latch.
It would have to be a custom build but easily doable.
The accessories are still in development, the bumper with the tire swing out is a net gain of about 80lbs, I'm hopping to get better equipped for aluminum in the coming months as I would like to offer aluminum options, maybe even aluminum/steel hybrid.
The front bumper weighs about 85lbs without bull bar in steel.
I will also be doing several different options that will bolt on behind the tire, rotopax mount 2"
receiver ect.

Thanks Jeff! It was great to meet you and your wife this weekend!
Hope you don't mind me posting these pics.
Front low profile bumper and rear installed on an 06, the tire is set to accommodate a high-lift behind it. The installs are
Getting easier with each one I do.
I should have all the tricks and pics I need to do a good installation write up.

Thanks for posting Ben. It was great meeting you too. Let me know if you get down my way. Now if I can only find someone to fix my driveline vibration my rig would be perfect. Lol.
