Any thoughts on how to route the tailgate light wiring? I have the light already attached but I'm still contemplating what to tap it to. Likely that I may need a hole or two drilled if I want it neat and tapped into the tail-light.
On the white one he actually ran the wires along the gas strut and it looked really clean. I think he tied into the trailer plug harness.
I'll see if I can get him to post some pics.

I'm planning on getting a rear bumper in the near future but as a mountain biker I've been worried about how it's going to work with my hitch mounted rack. I just recently came across this video (worth a watch if you like, cruisers, bikes, surfing, fishing and public land):

Our Land: Traversing Oregon - Video - Pinkbike

If you don't want to watch the whole thing you can see the swingout pretty good at 12:29.

I have no clue who makes that bumper but it looks pretty good for what I need. Looks to carry a spare tire, has a hitch mount built into the opposite swing out so the bikes on the rack swing out of the way and it also appears to also carry a jerry can and hi lift jack.

@benc, any chance that you could do something like that as a swing out option?

Ben has mentioned incorporating some type of bike carrier with the second swingout. The one in that video looks like the swingout has a hitch receiver and they're using a typical hitch style carrier. Not a bad idea. I'm personally hoping Ben can come up with a second swingout that serves multiple purposes. I don't think he wants to reveal his plan yet.

Interesting! For me I'd prefer to keep using my existing rack rather than purchase a swingout that is dedicated to holding bikes (assuming that is what you're hinting at). I'm thinking it would be pretty easy to stick a receiver onto a swingout.

There will be one accessorie arm with a modular ladder.
All additional accessories will atach to that swing arm and the ladder.
I personally am not a huge fan of hitch mount accessories offroad due to rattles but it could be possible to add a 2" receiver
To the arm. I'm likely going to use a roof type bike carrier that will attach to the accessorie arm.
I have countless ideas for the accessories arm and an excited to get started on it!

Ben,
Just a suggestion. I think you should have an option to include the laser cutouts for the 3"x3" LED's like you have on your front bumper. They could be wired into the backup light circuit for improved visibility in reverse. And they would look great with this design...

I did think about this but decided against it for ease of production.
With all the options on the fronts it makes it tough to stock or build bumpers ahead of time as all orders are costom.
For the rears I needed it to be a little more production friendly.
There are so many different light options out there and seams like everyone wants something different so I figured this could be something one could add with how they see fit before powder coat.
I'm thinking of adding a back up light/camp light with an extendable mount somewhere on the swingout, possibly above the tire.

Ordered a Yakima high roller bike rack yesterday, going to see if I can make the ladder accommodate 2 of these or similar rack, I also ordered a cheap rack that is similar to see how that looks.

Awesome Ben! Ladder mounting bike racks like the old VW spyros (and the paint drawing I sent you a while back) is exactly what I'm looking for. It would be awesome to consider ski rack mounting too in the design, but it should accommodate both if it can accommodate one.

Yeah, I'm thinking some Yakima sized load bars that either slide through holes in the ladder or bolt onto it
Will be a valuable accessorie!
Then most or all Yakima and likewise accessories can mount on their ladder.

Will also hopfully have a on tire mount rotopax option before I start shipping bumpers.
It will be great for the guys that just want one swing out!
You will be able to have your tire, jack and fuel on one swing out.

I'm excited to see what you come up with and I think that could work out really well. For me, I often am carrying more than 2 bikes and that's one of the things I like about my Thule hitch mount. I have the extension for it so I can carry 2 or 4 bikes on it. I've also found that when I have bikes on the back I'm not doing any hardcore trails.

Sounds like your two options are to get a swingable bike rack or try and get Ben to incorporate a hitch receiver into the second swingout. There's really no other way that I can think of unless you deal with not being able to open the swingouts with the bike rack on.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid and it seems like the simplest option would be a receiver on the swingout. I do think hanging 2 bikes is probably a cleaner setup but unfortunately 2 is sometimes not enough.

Kaymar has something similar to this for the LR4..

More progress on the bumper.
Also working on getting my hardware lists together, the pic is the hardware for the swing arm only. Between all the nuts bolts and accessories such as the 7 pin plug, wire harness, bump stops, licence plate lights latch ect is about $300 worth of hardware.

I was brain storming tonight about a possible crumple zone on the spare tire, I have seen some pretty major damage caused by backing into something or getting hit on the spare tire! I already have a stand off bracket that bolts onto the swing arm to help support the bottom of the tire, right now it is straight but if I add some v bends to that plate it would allow the tire to give about 2-3" in a collision before any damage is caused to the swing out or vehicle. The amount of give would depend on the angle of the tire. If they were to collapse they could easily be replaced with new ones.
Another nice thing about the crumple stand off brackets is the clamp for the tire mount can be left somewhat loose, this way if you were to drag your spare tire it could actually rotate up avoiding damage, once your through the obstacle you can simply push the tire back down against the stand off.
I'm not sure if that make sense or not but it will once you see it.

Very curious about bike mount options as well. I watched the above video and like the idea of the receiver on the swing out. I could see it being a rattle issue for certain hitch mounts, but not with the 1-up mount as shown in the video. I have a 1-up and can attest that they lock in solidly. The issue then becomes centering the receiver on swing-out so that the bikes don't hang out beyond the side of the vehicle.

Diggin' the bumper, looks great.
