Maybe try to contact Land Cruiser heaven in Maryland. They removed AHC from the owners 2016 and installed OME if memory serves me correct. They may be able to lend a hand.

How are you liking the Ironman Suspension on your 570 vs the stock AHC setup? Did you go for a lift, or did you stay at stock height?
Love it so far, got almost 2 inch lift and it's been great with my dessert/dune runs.

I had kings on my LC which I assume had the same lines as your LX, everything worked great.

You probably will have to do quite a bit of grinding to one of the two bump stops for each LCA though, so make sure you have an angle grinder and soft disk. And if you don’t have comp adjusters the fender skirt trimming in the instructions is overzealous.. you can just notch them instead of cutting 3” off the back edge. It’ll make more sense when you see it in person
Thanks for the tip on the bump stop mount. Ended up cutting them mostly off. They were very in the way!

Without that I’m not sure I would’ve gotten those rear top nuts off.

One thing that came from all of this, now I have a AFS OFF light flashing on my dash. Didn’t remove the ahc sensors which I thought that’s all I needed to do to keep AFS. Anyone have any ideas of what this could be?

*update on afs: Found the fuse for afs and removed it. Not more flashing light.

In my case it was about 6-8 hours total on the front and probably 10-15 on the rear. My example is likely on the extreme end due to rust troubles and my novice mechanic skills.

The biggest timing risk associated with this job would be not having the right tool or part and getting stuck midway through

I'll watch for the tools, but the rear took that long? I'll have to dive in and crawl under the LX to see what might be that hickey other than the rust. I'm decent with tools, but my E36 has way more room to work on it with it's LS engine by a country mile than this thing. The irony haha.

I was thinking of new OEM UCA's, LCA's, CV axles, Wheel bearing (bluepit has some ready to install preassembled units) at same time. If I can pare it down to a weekend build, then sweet!

All in my costing for new OEM hardware on front, and an all around B8 Bilstein package is right around $4500

Yeah I’ve done a full suspension refresh on my e36 and it was about 100 times easier. I’ve found working on this Toyota to be much more challenging than any bmw I’ve worked on despite common misconception.

Bmws are meant to be worked on and rebuilt more frequently haha
 
Got to take out all AHC parts today, only kept three lines: two going from the main AHC pump on the driver’s side over the gas tank crossmember to the passenger side, and one from the passenger rear shock to the frame rail. Any one managed to remove them without drop the fuel tank ? @turbo8 @B Hans

Keep the main switching valve please. These are very hard to find and usually rust damaged. It’s the box on the right with many little lines looping back to it. Please put it up on the buy forum

I already sold the whole system damaged as is months ago. just kept the parts as I didn't have time to remove them.

I believe I got all the lines out, it required cutting the lines in multiple different places.
 
How much does that pile of AHC weigh?

Interesting. We had ”presumed” that the weight difference b/w LX and LC was from the luxury items (sound deadening, thicker windows, etc). But if above weight is true, then that pretty much explains the difference!

As I remember a couple of the trickier lines that run over the tank are actually multiple pieces and could be taken apart. I don't think I had to do much cutting but did require some creative bending and pulling pretty aggressively to remove some of the more stubborn pieces. But I was able to eventually remove everything. The big hang ups are some of the clips that hold the lines to the frame, some of them are pretty well hidden but once released it becomes somewhat easy from there.

Got a picture of an oil stain in the driveway, from my girlfriend while I was at work earlier this week. Went outside to my LX to inspect it on my dinner break, and I noticed fluid leaking from my rear axle. After prodding around, I found a leaking suspension line in the rear that runs over the exhaust. As soon as I pulled up to the 4 way stop by my house, the warning light on my dash gave me the confirmation. The AHC was nice for the 7,000 miles I had, but I'm not shelling out the coin to get it fixed, only to have another issue pop up down the road.

That line is a common failure point and is replaceable. A full delete will be more expensive than replacing that line and bleeding the system.

I kinda figured it was just by looking at it. If I do a full delete, I will probably just install an Ironman Pro Foam Cell 1" or 2" lift kit. I know it will cost more to replace, but I'm looking at it from a long term standpoint pricewise.

Totally get it the perception but lots of folks here have many hard miles on AHC. Mine included. Just maintain it.

If you do delete, iron man foam cell pros would be a massive downgrade in ride quality. I wouldn’t settle for anything less than kings or dobinsons MRA IMO.

Regarding which tube, I’d look around on this forum to confirm. If it’s the crossover tube on the frame rail I believe it’s tube number 4.
