I would like to disable the switches for all operation of the sunroof. However, I'd like to keep the function of the dome lights, door locks, etc.

So, looking at the EWD, I believe I have identified connector IE1.

Pin 1: Blue/yellow (power from dome to sunroof control relay)
Pin 2: Red/blue (no idea-can't find anything in EWD)
Pin 3: Blue/black (power from main relay to sunroof control relay)
Pin 4: White/black (ground from sunroof control relay/switch/motor)

So, I'm thinking that removing only pin 3 is the correct strategy, but leave the others connected. I have no idea what pin 2 serves, so maybe that will come into play, as well?

EDIT: It looks like pin 2 is the wire coming from the door switches for the dome light.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I'm a mechanical guy, electrical stuff isn't my forte.

Thanks!

Just a thought, you may want to keep it hooked up to make it easier to clean the drain holes. Eventually, they will need to be cleaned.

That's exactly why I'm disabling it! I was having issues with the sunroof drains up in the a-pillar. I didn't want to pull my headliner (fabric) and don't ever use the sunroof, so I have sealed it all up with polyurethane so no water or anything else can get past the sunroof seal. I just want to disable the motor/controls so no one accidentally tries to open it and breaks the seal. I would like it to be reversible, however, if I ever change my mind or need to open the sunroof for further repairs.

Just do what I did and put a post-it note up there saying do not use. They come in many designer colors these days. :hillbilly:

My current 'fix' is blue painters tape covering up the switches!

You have several choices. You can remove power to the motor or simply disable the switches by removing the ground from the switch panel.
So, I pulled the overhead sunroof control console... With the fabric headliner it's hard to get access to the different connectors up in there, other than the one for the switch panel. So, I can't see where I'd disconnect power to the motor. Removing the ground from the switch would be easy, but I'd probably just have to cut the wire, and then use a butt connector if I ever wanted to use the switches again. I don't love that strategy... So, would it work to just remove the pin 3 from the IE1 connector? That seems like it would remove power from the sunroof control relay, but all other functions and grounding would remain intact. Also, I have no idea what I'm talking about so I could be totally wrong. Ha!

Thanks for the help!

Seems to me like you'd just pull that relay (if you can find it).

The "dome" circuit you see is so that if your key is off, and the sunroof is open, and you open the door, it should buzz. Mine never has. The rest of the dome light circuit should continue to function.

Depin IE1 pin 4 for ground. Wrap up with electrical tape and for sure measure zip tie. If you want to be kind, put some type of flag noting what it is. To depin, you'll need to pop open the locking mechanism next to your thumb holding the IE1 connector above. A depin tool is helpful, but I use a pick from harbor freight that cost $2.

From what I can tell, the relay is inaccessible due to the fabric headliner (not the panel headliner like the later 80 series).

Won't this prevent the dome lights from working? It appears as though this is a shared ground path for the sunroof and dome lights.

Correct, sorry I missed that. Try pin 3 on IE1 and see if that works. It takes a minute and is totally reversible in a similar time frame.

Appears as though this was successful. Dome and map lights work as they should. No power to sunroof controls.

Nice. I may follow suit.... or least when it comes time to replace my post-it note.

Great thread. I did a sunroof seal in February and disconnected a bunch of stuff near the switches - and in the process lost my dome lights. Now I can have it both ways!

Hey folks,

Sorry to bring this thread from the dead but it looks like there were some electrical gurus in here that may help solve my issue.

I recently deleted the sunroof - and unfortunately threw away all of the connectors that were a part of the assembly - since I didn't realize it would affect the cabin lights.

The issue I am having now is this:
  • All cabin lights (front map light and both dome and rear cargo lights) come on when the corresponding doors are opened and lights are in the DOOR setting. Front doors trigger the middle dome light, and rear doors/rear cargo hatch trigger the rear cargo dome light.
  • The front map light works fine, triggered by a switch (there is no DOOR setting for that one).
  • All door courtesy lights work when doors are opened, as expected.
  • However, neither dome light (middle or rear) work when they are in the ON position. Both lights have 12v going to them when they are either in ON/OFF/DOOR position. But the light only comes on when the doors are opened and the lights are in the DOOR setting.

Any ideas what I need to fix/terminate to get the lights working in the ON position? This glitch is preventing me from putting the headliner and the rest of the truck back together.

Thanks in advance!!!

The lights work off a switched ground. Your lights are all working properly other than the switch setting, so either you have bad switches or there is a missing ground bus on the light that feeds the switch. Ground is supplied by 2 of the 4 screws that fix the housing to the roof. If you remove the light it should be obvious if checked with a meter.
