So.......What do you call a person that drives a car really fast in a competitive sport while utilizing Japanese-Thailand-Manufactured Filters of Oil?

Would that person be a RACIST?

Oh my, the "proper" oil filter is no longer available!?:eek: A critical part like this makes the Cruiser useless, likely the best thing to do would be crush all of them, and send the remains to China so they can make something useful for us!?

I'm not necessarily sure this is the case. There is, realistically, probably not a great deal of difference in functionality betwixt the two. The Thai one looks less restrictive and should have more surface area, and in theory trap more dirt. However, I am still a new mechanic - I'm applying what I know about fluid flow to this problem.

Realistically, other than the "I have something cooler than you" factor, it doesn't matter. Looking at the available data, (oil analysis results) has always shown that the 1fz is very easy on oil, doesn't make junk, so just about any average or better filter will do a great job. Even if the filter were removed, oil changed at ~3K miles, likely wouldn't significantly reduce engine life?

And I thought I was the one that thought everyone on this thread was bat**** crazy. So, I've been maintaining my own high mileage cars for 40 years and maintaining fleet vehicles for 30+ year, and NOW I have to start giving a crap about oil filters?
 
My brother works in the trucking industry and was Shop Superintendent for 13 years at one trucking company and now is the Truck and Diesel Instructor at a college for the last 15 years.

Oil filter analysis has been part of his life and he has cut apart HUNDREDS of oil filters to analyze their contents as well as brands, types, and change intervals. They ran Blackstone analysis on EVERY truck in their fleet and used that data to determine when the next engine rebuild would be scheduled for that particular unit. They were able to track data back to specific brands of oil filters that had higher engine failure rates for engines.

He was able to zero in on specific brands of oil filters that were better than others through real-world applications. He happened to be in Iowa, and some of the most available and best quality filters (air, oil, fuel) were from Wix. Based on his experience, I pretty much have followed suit and have used them ever since in all of my vehicles.

I am sure the Toyota -J or -T versions are OK for their perspective customers, but I will NOT go out of my way to pay triple the price that I can get a Wix for locally.

To each their own.
