Diesel Tundra is US Bound....hopefully the LC will get the same option

Since the Tundra is manufactured in the US, and the Cummins diesel engine being talked about as a possible option is also ... you guessed it ... made in the US, "US Bound" implies it is coming from somewhere outside the US o_O

Now, if you had news about a diesel option for our venerable Land Cruiser ... that would be a different story.

Well since both share the same engine in the US now I am sure Toyota could figure out a way to get the Cummins in the LC if they wanted too.

None of this has been verified folks. Till you see a press release it is nothing but pink turtles all the way down.

A lot easier to find the pink turtle than diesel cruiser in America

If I bought 200 and imported a 1vd, what legal obstacles am I looking at for a swap?

Toyota will never bring the diesel in. Never. I don't think you understand that it's not the vehicle. It's already got 99% of US safety specs. It's the support that would have to come with it. Inventory, training techs, hiring new techs, tools.

It just won't happen.

I fully agree, iirc hino makes toyotas Diesel engines. The best bet would be cummins but I seriously doubt we'll ever see one in a LC.

But I've been watching the 200 series for a bit. The 08's are now starting to come into my price range. Perhaps in another few years the 1vd will also drop. New rebuilt ones are around 11k not including all the assesories. I would really like another cruiser to tow my 77 around for trips. Also I'm getting tired of fighting with my wife over the keys.Time will tell.

note original thread 2014. Almost got me excited for a bit.

Aw man! I didn't see the OP date until I FINALLY read through to your post... :(

I still do not understand why they do not use their 4.5 diesel???

There aren't any Japanese diesel autos in the US that I know of. Don't think it is a coincidence.

Mazda has been saying they will bring in a diesel for the last few years, but it always seems to be a couple years off -- it has been delayed several times.

"2017 Toyota Tundra cummin diesel"

Is that website promoting trucks or porn?
