Did the LC200 just go up in value (more) after the 250 release? (2 Viewers)

I think that Toyota needs to release 2024 LC. Then cancel it for 2025 and 2026. Then re-release it again 2027...and then repeat cycle. Best resale value ever!

May just be coincidence but I have noticed a handful of new 200 Series listings pop up over the last couple of days since the 250 reveal. Perhaps folks that have decided to trade/sell while the market is still up?

That's pretty typical everytime a new model of a vehicle gets released. Sometimes it takes time to really appreciate what was lost.

Long-term reliability yet to be seen, I'm very happy with the TTV6 Hybrid in my Tundra.

I think for Toyota's bottom line, they are hitting home runs compared to prior mid-range offerings. The FJ Cruiser is decent offroad, but underpowered, bad blind spots and not great on road. I was fully onboard to buy one until I test drove it. Drove off the lot with a Tacoma instead.

The 4Runner has been solid, but I still feel the 5th gen was a downgrade from the 4th gen with the 4.7 V8. I have a feeling I'm going to feel the same way about the 200 Land Cruiser, although the TTV6 is a much better option comparatively than the 4.0 V6 in the 4R currently (the 4.0 is a very reliable engine though).

It looks like the new LC has HVAC physical controls, comes with a locker standard, cloth seats, decent interior space. I think it will be a decent offroader, but want to see final specs on axles, etc. the 2400W inverter is a nice feature. I wonder what size of tire it will fit stock. The wheel wells look fairly big.

Land Cruiser (middle model) comes with Michelin P265/70/18.

Hi All,

Just joined here after lingering for years. I have a question for you guys. I was about to sign the paperwork to buy a 2020 Land Cruiser Heritage. It would cost me about $80,000 with shipping included. Should I pull the trigger on this? I was worried about significant devaluation, so I'm hesitant now because I'm worried about resale value down the road, since I'm investing a good chunk of my money.

Currently I'm driving a gray 2016 4Runner Limited which is almost paid off.

Appreciate the insight in advance!!

You have to buy the Heritage...because otherwise you have to change your screenname! :D

Since you may not know how special the 200 is, i would suggest that you keep $80k and get a Lexus GX550, which will be undoubtedly modern, good resale value, and fancy.

If the 250 is anything like the 300 to drive.

Most people who drive the 250 will enjoy how nimble and easy to drive it will feel with the added fuel economy.

The 200 will feel more tank like because it weighs like a tank and drives like one.

I own a 2014 LX 570 and a 2023 basic LC 300.

I rather driver the 300 honestly over the 200.
Whenever I go back to driving the 200 it feels pathetically sloppy to drive. Heavy steering, worse brakes and just not as light on its feet around town.
And this is me comparing a 5.7 200 to a 1GR 4.0 300. Imagine if I had the twin turbo 3.5?

Case in point
It will be easy to hate the 250 when you haven't driven it but when you drive it, you may end up wanting to add one to your fleet.

I have wanted a land cruiser since I was a kid in Afghanistan. All the UN and Red Cross vehicles were mostly LCs.

My options are either:

2016 200 series with about 110K miles -- costs about 30K after trading my 4Runner
2020 Heritage Edition Will Cost about 60K after trading my 4Runner
Or stick with 2016 4Runner Limted that has about 91K miles

What would you do in my case?

Get the 2016 unless you truly have the cash, the Heritage twice the cost so hard to make a decision for you. That does seem like a good price on a Heritage though.

Coming from a 4Runner, that 2016 will put a smile on your face and make your bank account happy. 110k is nothing. Save the 30 grand is what I say.

BVE makes good points.

Whether 2016 or 2020, see below for the changes thru the years and see if that is worth $30k difference.

For LC:

2020+: new front differential design…maybe better/stronger differential carrier??

2018+: KDSS bolt change, automatically power-folding outside mirrors, late-2018s have new radiator design, late-2018s have capacitive touch screen on center display, powered lift gate, non-mandatory rear entertainment, newer transmission software (flashable on 2016-2017), and new key (very cool) design.

2016+ LC also gains bigger front brakes, 8-speed auto, semi-aniline leather of the LX, and has better buttons arrangement than prior years.

Good point regarding what I should buy. I'll set up a thread.

My main question (which was more on topic) was regarding the 2020 Heritage Edition holding its value, if I decide to go with it. Worth the wait to see how the market develops or bite the bullet on the 2020 Heritage? I would hate to see it depreciate significantly after dropping about 80K.

Hard to say without knowing the condition and mileage on the one you are looking at.

As much as I’d like to recommend the 21 Heritage, save it for the 24’ LC bro…this is coming from an 13’ LX570, love the truck and will probably keep it but it’s slow compared to the newer Toyota turbo-charged engines. Power doesn’t really come on until the engine screams past 2-3k rpm whereas you get max torque on these turbo hybrid barely over 1.5k RPM. Worse, it drinks gas. I’m paying $500 month CA gas price and I work from home, just taking trips around town dropping kids off and weekend stuff.

1. I'm ordering the First Edition 250, but not enthused by the Hybrid drivetrain. Will the battery pack & complexity stand the "test of time" when LC's are solid for 25 years. It feels like the worst of both worlds: a small engine without much power and a filler electric boost.

2. In regards to 200's holding their value. Of course they will! They are the SUV version of "the last of the V8 interceptors". For some, there is no replacement for displacement AND back to #1, the hybrid drivetrain does add complexity.

3. Finally. Buy the Heritage. I get offers ALL the time on mine: dealerships, notes on my window etc. IIRC there were only about 1200 sold in 2020 and a bit less than that in 2021. That's a limited edition by any measure. That little badge on the C column is like the badge on the '97 Anniversary Ed.

Why not spend $10k more (?? just guessing??) for GX550 and get a better powertrain, luxury (equivalent or better than LC200), etc..
