Next is sliders? I have a set of 58" tube sliders for my Cruiser but I am going to head a different direction.

How the CB work?

I still haven't heard any truckers talking, but haven't driven it that much. I need to just have a conversation with one of you guys, and see how far my range is.

Thanks for the offer, but not quite long enough for the 80. Might have someone with a 4Runner interested, though.

I still think you need to get an antenna that tunes better and is longer. My SWR readings were at that max range for acceptability at the lower channels and a little bit over on the higher channels. Get one that has the set screw on top, those work the best. As for length, yours isn't making it over the highest part of your roof. Antennas use the flat planes of the rig to send the signal. Right now it is only bumping off the hood and then deflecting from there. You want a minimum of 1/3 of the antenna higher than the highest point of the rig (that’s minimum, the more the better). I would say move it to the center of the roof if you want to keep the one you have, or get one a few more feet longer. Right now, I don't think you will get more than a half mile in a forest (which is fine for trail runs since we are never that far apart) and maybe a mile or a bit more on the highway for range.

noice. dont see to many red ones around. i love the magic dial!

Which antenna are you running? How is it mounted?

It's just an old "firestick" that I picked up. I have a tab bolted with one of the lights on my front bumper that the antenna is mounted to. When the back bumper gets done, I'll probably get a longer cable and mount the antenna up higher on one of the swingouts.

Thanks!

I wanted to add more info to the change in shock length. Being able to do all this work on a lift allowed me to see how far down the axles will hang, though not under loaded, flexed, working conditions. I checked all the brake lines, the fronts still have enough slack to not worry me, but I did make a modification in the rear.

This is just a ghetto-fabbed bracket to allow the brake line to drop farther, and the parking brake bracket is spaced downward as well. The rubber piece you see here was replaced by a longer aluminum one later.

Got a set of springs from PabloVTA at Surf 'n' Turf. Old Man Emu 850 (front) and 863 (rear).

The paint/powdercoat was peeling, with some rust showing through.

Used a wire wheel and emery cloth to clean them up.

Finished with a coat of Rustoleum Stops Rust, and got them installed. Sorry, no pics after paint. I installed them Thursday evening, then went wheeling on Bald Mountain Saturday.

Had to take a strap a couple times.

Also got a couple scars on my flares from sliding into some pipe barriers.

Looking good at the top of Bald, in the clouds. :bounce:

Bout time.

Finaly had the time to read your build through.
Nice build thread Don.
You haven't posted in awile hope things are going well.
Have you done any mods resently?
I'm looken at step sliders have you thought about putting some on the red machine?

I still want to do sliders, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. My heart is still sort of set on a custom solution that includes skid plates & swingarm bracket protection.
We just had our 4th child on January 4th, so we've been sticking around home the past couple months. I'm itching to go wheeling again, maybe shooting for a snow poker run on March 7th.

I can't wait for your next thread update. Please post lots of pics of your latest mods & trip to.... hmm... I won't let the cat out of the bag.
