I would love to have one like the one image above.
But i do not think anyone is interested in selling :(

Guess i will be just patient and keep my eyes open :)

I know of one or two, but nope...no one wants to sell, so, in the mean time I might as well make myself a repro till I find one!

:D

Stoked about the jack :)

Hey question!

To all you cats with the early heaters like the one i picked up...

Do you guys happen to have any photos of the fire wall side where the heater tubes come through and connect? Want to see what that all looks like :)

Thanks!

Destin

If I had not thought that it was a non OEM (which it technically isn't) heater and had my body guy "patch the holes" I would be able to help.:bang:

I will be re-installing mine soon by making a template for drilling the holes (mounting x3(I think) and water x2). I plan on installing the heater tight to the bottom of the dash (or close to).

When your cruiser came to the US the dealer went through the same process, as the heaters weren't original to the truck. The stickers on mine have a Cincinnati, OH manufacturer.

Same idea with the reflectors on the rear. They were added by the dealers to comply with safety requirements.

I'll check and see if I have any pics "pre-body work".

Thanks man :D

I am making a template too, once it is made i will try to scan it in at scale for others to use :D

Destin,
I have read a number of restoration projects posted here and most are like a short story novel with villains and plot twists. However I was disappointed earlier this month when I read your post… I got to the last page and found that the ending had not been written!

So what can I say that hasn’t already been conveyed? I love the old style parts and your pictures feed the obsession. It looks fantastic! Keep pushing the rope… eventually everyone will finish their part! :bang:

Like you I am also scrounging around for various parts and missing items for my recently acquired ‘78 FJ40. (I’ll post an introduction with pics this weekend.) One of the missing items is the tool bag and tools (and a jack, jack handle, clips, straps…).

:::: endless Christmas List rolls out::::

I’m guessing that the OEM tool bag has not been picked up by the after market producers and if so they cost a fortune? Either way, I have access to an industrial sewing machine and would like to get a template for the tool bag. I’d even barter for it… As for the tools, I expect there are similar ones available from Sears, Pep Boys or Mac.

Well the weekend is almost here and we get an extra hour to indulge in a favorite past time!

Thank you for sharing your project… I look forward to more pics and a speedy completion!

Best regards,
Guy

JohnnyC sent me a very nicely laid out template of a tool bag that I havent had time to work on....If you'd like, I can forward it to you......PM me an address....

Old equipment yellow (Krylon) is the correct color.

I have the jack touch........There is more to it than just spraying it.

We can go over it.

Not to steal any of your secrets, but that would make for a good thread all on it's own

grounding the engine to frame...

I know some of you cats hae the frame ground going from the starter to the frame... But i am wondering if you can ground it from the tranny mount... seems to be a threaded bold there... or does it have to be the starter bolt to the frame ?

also...

wanted to re-chrome the ring around the steering wheel cap... but it looks like it does not separate... ideas?

also here is a ground "before" i disassembled every thing, etc, have no idea where it was hooked up before, hell it might not have been hooked up correctly at all before!

damn it was a filthy mess before!

going to pull the starter and repaint it soon as well.
Anything to be mindful when pulling it and reinstalling it?
( never pulled a starter )

Thanks!!!!

:D

It looks like you've got the horn button broken down as far as it goes. Rechrome that piece, then repaint the center with black enamel. The easiest way I found to do that was to lay the enamel on and then take a rag with some acetone hold it steady on the edge and spin the piece. Much easier than attempting to tape it off. The retainer ring is stainless and should only need a polish.

Ground strap goes to the starter bolt.

Your trans case linkage.....

What a difference a model year makes. I saw the relatively simple bracket where the vertical and horizontal rods connect. Just bolts to the engine mount. Simple.

Not mine of course. It involves two bolts, a fancy bracket and then the bracket thing to which the rods connect. They saved a bundle when then switched to your type of bracket. I'll get a pic in here soon.

I just read this whole thing, can't wait for the updates! :)
