So when i clean up the frame...

There is only a few bits of surface rust...
I imagine if i sand those bits and spray it it will be fine, but i do not have a spray gun, and aerosol cans have no hardener right? So it would not be very durable>?

Why not clean it up good...sand it down, and let the shop give it a once over with their guns? I find that this will give you a nice coat than just a rattle can would...just my .02

BTW...cool top!!!

x2 bring the bows to the shop and have them spray all the same time as the tub...i love the canvas ....NICE :)

I think the bows are already there. He has the original bows in great shape.

I'm just wondering if he got some extra material with the top to do the doors. seems to be a problem that has not been address with the reproduction tops being done now. Back in the nineties Kayline would include extra material for the doors. But back then the only people buying the tops already had a soft top model that had soft top doors. Now there are a lot of people who don't have the bows and doors buying the tops because the bows are now available. Just to bad nobody wants to offer some spare canvas so the doors would be a prefect match to the top. Or maybe they are and I've missed it?

ahhh...thats right...when i read frame...i assumed he was talking about the softtop frame...i was wondering why didnt he just give them to the shop:rolleyes:

truck frame

Ehsan does sell extra canvas for the doors...you need to ask however...i do not think destin got the extra canvas ...but...he can always just get some sent from Ehsan...

I totally agree....i liked that kayline just sent extra canvas ...assuming that if you have the top you have the doors.

Thanks guys

I need to hit up eshlan or Alex and see if they have extra door fabric from the last production cycle, if not I will Just have to match it up.

Sucks but I am sure it will work out :D

Yeap was referring to the frame not the bows :D

Pretty stoked, things are coming along :D

Dope!

SouthBostonFJ is hooking me up with door canvas of the same color :D
Thanks man!

I have to say, these tops are well built, stitching and material are very rugged and clean.
Very impressed all around. Great customer service from SouthBostonFJ / paktop!

:D

Now if we could just get Ehsan to make the canvas for the 63 and earlier FJ40/FJ25. A year older and you would have the same problem those of us who have the real early soft tops.

So what's the plan with the frame? Is it sand, spray on some rust reformer followed by a top coat and go? Are you painting the axles and springs with the same thing as the frame or do you have something else planned? What is the standard if you are not breaking down the frame and removing the engine, axles, springs, etc.?

I personally would strip the frame, sand clean and paint the frame, and whatever other parts may need a touch up, and put it all back together. Who knows when the next time will be that this frame will be this accessible for such work...and considering the work already being done, this extra work would be the icing on the cake.

But, to be fair to Destin, this is his rig, and he might not feel this might be needed. In either case, it will look fantastic when completed

hehe thanks guys :)

Yeah it is a toughy, I do not really have the equipment or budget to pull the motor and such.
But the frame is in good nick.
I took my compressor and a copper pipe and forced most all the dirt out.
Waiting on some degreaser ( marine clean ) in the mail.
Hopefully borrowing a buddy's pressure washer friday, and then really cleaning up the frame etc.

Possibly thinking about sanding the surface rust bits or rust converter then top coating.
I will most likely have a shop polly the axels and leaf spring and blast and paint over the winter when the truck is reassembled.

Some pics, need to marine clean and pressure wash next :D
