Whoops looks like I had it backwards in my post. Anyway, like I said, that seems to be the path of least resistance. looking forward to seeing pics of the process!

Looks like you've got a good handle on it. I'm impressed with the work you're doing. If you have a headscratcher you can take a peek at mine anytime. I'm just down the road off Windward Pkwy.

JoeDirt - send me your contact info. I'd love to stop by and take a look at your ignition wiring.

I got the new tube style carrier last night and the first test fit was a failure. It looked as if the holes didn't line up with this set up. Definitely a head scratcher...

I installed the latch catch and tire carrier bump stop on the rear sill and started playing with the carrier. I came up with a solution.

I used the top two mounting holes to secure the top bracket and then drilled new holes for the top bracket. This allowed me to drill four new holes for the bottom bracket (which I will weld nuts on the back of the rear sill horns). Once the tire carrier was secure I was able to determine how much to trim off the tube that has the latch installed. Once that was trimmed I was able to reinstall the latch and presto it was all done!

Now I need to dismantle it and weld up the previous holds and new nuts on the backing plates.

Patched the old holes, now I am ready to move on to the next step. Once I figure that out I will post it up.

Time for quality family time.

No really, I need to stop working on the cruiser now. But,... My daughter asked me what 'this' is and I replied it is a bolt on tailgate from real steel. So I had to drill the holes to mount it in order to show her.

Remind me to tell you about the personality test that asks you to describe the back of your car. Mine is a hot mess.

Well done!

So what are your plans for paint after this? Are you going to just feather it in, or are you going for a full re-spray?

I am going for a complete respray with Nasan single stage epoxy. I have purchased all the paint products and supplies from www.tpc-global.com. They were able to match code 854 sky blue so I am stoked.

I think I will finish up with the sill welding and other finishing touches and then move on to repairing the half doors I purchased. I need to write down my punch list and prioritize the repairs and mods. I can't wait to install my OCD top.. Woot woot!

You got an OCD top? Lucky dog!

It has been a while since my last update. Nothing glamorous nor exciting. I have been in the process of stripping the paint off of the tub, removing all the bits and pieces off of the cruiser and preparing for paint some time in the near future.

I just picked up the latest batch from the sandblaster and everything looks great.

I just paid $180 for the load in the picture. You just need to price it out in your area and go with the most reputable/low cost you find.

Looking good. Are you going to be doing a "body on" paintjob, or do you plan to take it off?

What process are you using for stripping the paint? Chemical? Stripping disks w/ the angle grinder?

Keep it up!

Yes, I am doing a body on paint job. I plan on hitting as much of the frame and under body as possible .

The small bits were all blasted, the body was DA and chemically stripped.

It is slowly coming along. The exterior is close to being paint free an then onto the interior.

I hope there is an end in sight.

I took a break from grinding and sanding this weekend and decided to try my hand at using the all metal filler to smooth out the welds on the rear quarters. This was my first attempt at using a body filler and the first batch went quite well. It set pretty quickly and sanded easily. I must have not put enough hardener in the second batch because it took forever to set and it made a mess. Good lesson learned.
