I thought that was a Metal Tech cage in there already. Look how the upright curves around the dash.

Yea, but it's not there in the crappy cell phone pics I took last Wednesday. The 'finished' picture was this morning, after a day of welding. Plus, it's not painted yet.

They are three of the five holes for the screws that hold the bottom of the original dash pad against the dash.

I added the other two holes in the dash box so I could use all 5 mounting points. I also added a bullet LED to illuminate the dash. It works great and was very easy to install.

I'm going to copy your LED when I get around to it. Not sure about the other two holes, but I guess it couldn't hurt.

I've also been thinking about trying to get Mark to get me a matched pair of locks so I can install one on the glovebox and have them use the same key.

Last question...these holes are threaded?

Last question...these holes are threaded?

I suppose they could be sheet metal screws, but that would not be the way of Toyoda-san. Yes, threaded and probably a nut tacked onto the back. I've never reached up there to check.

The dashbox is so solid with three. I'm not sure two more will do anything. The dowels mostly support the weight in the shear direction.

If you had to guess what size are the dowels? I could always call Mark and ask him. I'm installing my Dashbox this weekend and I do not have the hardware.

With my crappy caliper I measured 5mmx1.25. It's the same screw that holds the tail light housing to the frame in a '78. Also probably the same screw as holds on the bezel.

Great! Thanks.

5mm seems really small. Mark thought it was 8mm but he wasn't home and couldn't check.

How do you plan to do the cross bar parallel to the windshield? That's the only reason i haven't bought one yet.

Not every MT cage has that bar. Mine doesn't.
