Jon told us it would be ready for the 1st Annual HDC Fall Moab trip. I was planning to borrow his 4Runner and now he is totally screwing up my plans.... again.

Another baby step. Did I mention how much I hate bending brake lines? Well, add flaring them too. ;p Pics of the proportion valve for the rear brakes.

Nice bends.....

I hope mine turn out as good.

What tool are you using Jon? I assume you are using metric fittings?

Thanks.

I think you are low on fluid...
:flipoff2:

Thanks Rory. Glad somebody is looking out for me. :flipoff2:

Yep, double flare, though I've split a few bubbles and had to start over. In reality, what I have now will be redone with new tube. That 20 year old tubing doesn't flare well.

A tool I've seen in catalogs that I picked up at some autoparts store. All of my fittings are boneyard Toyota, so yes, metric. Note that the fittings to the clutch master/brake master are different than every place else (gee, how did I figure this out?).

Nice job Jon.. Looks like you'll be teaching young Onur with his brake line project in the future!!!

No problem. I have the tools ... and on the way to my sisters I remembered how to flare the tubing properly. In other words, I figured out what I was doing wrong so I get to do them over next weekend.

It's only been 3½ years.

Dear Jon,

I came here looking for pics of Da' 40.

There is no bushrat home page or any other pages.
Ratstew is gone or at least it cannot be found with a Google so for all intents and purposes, Ratstew is history.

1. Please 'splain why we cannot see ur purdy pics.
2. Add another year to your above quote.
3. Shouldn't you cancel the Baja trip and work on Da' 40 considering the bad guys in Mexico and world tension and US Foreign Policy and a Democratic congress and all that depressing stuff?
4. What happened to the project plan that was discussed earlier in this thread?
5. Do you need someone to do your birfields?

-Mike-

Hahaha,

you crack me up Mike! And "what up wit dat" Jon?

Cumcast and Ratstew do not like each other. I can't upload or dink around.

Just a little body work today. Stripped the paint off two doors (I have four). One of them had been painted several times. I count six times. Beige, black, smirf blue, red, dark blue, green.

Front Brakes

Yep, still don't like bending and flaring brake lines. Barring any goof-balls on my part the front brakes are DONE. Lines came from Marlin. Way overkill, but they match the engine. :hillbilly:

Now to the rear.

Looks great Jon. You are my inspiration for my future 40-project.

Looking good Jon. Is that an 80 series MC? Can't tell from the picture... -o-

... it does have a beautiful, new brake master cylinder from an 80 though. :D

-Mike-

Ya know, there was discussion recently about all the parts that have gone into this truck. Early FJ40, late FJ40, FJ60, FJ62, FZJ80 (e-locker, brake master), non-USA (H55F, TC parking brake), mini-truck.

Yep, disk brakes on all four corners with the FZJ80 master cylinder.

I "finished" the rear brakes yesterday afternoon. For the rear brakes I used flex lines from Downey to adapt the Toyota 10mm to the GM banjo fitting on the calipers. There has to be a better way. IF I was spring under the Downey lines would probably work good. But with the spring over they just don't line up well and I have too much line. I'm getting better with the bending tools so I might look at other options for adapting the banjo fitting. What would be nice is a short rubber hose with the banjo fitting on one end and a 3/8" female on the other. I might need to walk the GM section at the boneyard [gasp] and see what I can find.

Last night I worked on the wiring for the headlights, turn signals, and wipers. Mating the FJ62 column, with the 1969 equipment, using the aftermarket GM fuse block was quite the challenge, but I think I have it figured out. Bottom line is I can't use the turn/haz flashers on the GM fuse block and I'll need to use the Toyota flasher. I also won't have intermittent wipers, just high and low, and I need to look again at the wiring diagram for the 1969 wiper motor to see if there are any other issues. Something in the back of my mind is telling me there might be.

Looks good Jon - making progress.

Cruise Moab '09!

:grinpimp::bounce2::grinpimp:

I'll be pushing brake fluid this weekend.
