Still faulty. It's stuck and doesn't return fuel to the tank.

An update. It wasn't the regulator. The pump is only putting out 28psi. I need at least 35psi static and under load it takes 45psi. Many thanks to Ryan for loaning the pressure gauge. An external pump is now plumbed in and will see what happens tomorrow.

Jon, I have a line on an FJ60 1984. It runs reasonably well and the interior is pretty good. 28XXXX IIRC. I would call it a parts truck. It's cheap, I mean REALLY cheap. I was going to pick it up, but I can't seem to keep the trucks I've got going.
Thought I would mention it.

for the radiator overflow, that chrome one looks just like the stock one that came out of my 40. check Dan for a '77 FJ40 res. probably fairly cheap and it mounts to a 40 fender (PSide).

Sometimes it just takes longer to do things than you would think. Today's examples.

1 - Plumb the clutch hydraulics. Take the donor master cylinder (thanks Larry) apart, clean it up, inspect it. Run a hone through it. It does have some pitting about half way down, but since the bore is clean from the top to the side port I'm going to rebuild it even though historic experience says otherwise. Kit should be $28 from Dan vs. $110 for a new one. I also ran hard line from master cylinder, over the firewall, down the passenger side to a flex line coming off the slave cylinder. Factory mount, which was on the drivers side, was drilled off and moved to rib on passenger side. I've come to the conclusion that bending brake line sucks.

2- Wire the alternator correctly. Take apart FJ62 harness. Study FJ62 wire diagram. Talk to Larry, and he describes over the phone the FJ60 diagram. I decide they are just about the same. Fuses are in different locations, and the FJ62 has another wire, but they both have the B, L, and IG terminals. Wire up FJ60 alternator to charge light relay using FJ62 harness and FJ60 connector. Turn key ... charge light comes on ... start truck ... charge light stays on [schit]. Gauge doesn't lie. Alternator no worky. Dan gets more money from me tomorrow. Reman alternator $82.33.

Why do these seeming simple tasks take so long?

A very tired Rat

Rat,

I was thinking about the PS cooler... but will it end up being a heat sink for the radiator? Is there a good air flow in that area during normal driving conditions?

There should be good air flow from the grill. The PS cooler is not bolted to the radiator, but instead to the radiator mount. There is about 1/2" between the mount and the side of the radiator.

Jon did you pull the valve cover? What did you find?

One of the valve adjusters (#5 exhaust) was very loose. When I found it the adjuster was sitting on the rim of the pushrod instead of in the bowl. :frown:

Don't know yet.

Thanks Ryan

Overflow can installed, from JEGS. I chose not to get the purdy one. Does anybody know of a source for thin wall tube? The stuff NAPA sold me was the thickness of fuel line. I've considered just getting some clear tube. Size is 5/16".

Will it be ready for Blanca Peak next year?
