Hey guys just bought a new to me 100series (99') pretty sure the cv axles are clunking/slipping and need to be replaced. Anyone know the approximate price and or part # ?

43430-60040, ~$350 from McGeorge Toyota (recommended dealer). Buy OEM new if you don't do your own work. If you do, some here will tell you to buy the $60 parts house ones. You WILL be replacing the cheap parts house one at some point in the near future. Some folks are OK with that, if they do their own work. I do my own work, but I am simply tired of the hassle of replacing the remans. No one really makes an acceptable reman anymore, and the new ones from Asia are cheap junk. If you want have it done once, and almost certainly not think about it again for another 200k miles, buy new from Toyota. The extra cash you pay now will save you labor and down time down the road.

If you are replacing CV Axles, you'll want to spend the extra $$ to buy new flanges and related hardware. This will help mitigate driveline F-N-R clunk.

Heres the complete parts list: (Prices may have increased since I did this)

This is EXACTLY what best case scenario looks like. It isn't cheap, but you won't be dealing with the issue again most likely.

Yes, go with oem. I got reman cv's and the splines are old, so even with oem new hub flanges I find a play there. My next goal is to go with oem axles. Do it once and save the money you'll put into aftermarket. I wasted $140 for buying aftermarket axles.

Be sure!

Front Drive Shafts (CV's) don't actually slip, they will either be engaged or not. A CV cage broken, axle broken, teeth strip form axle and or hub flange or snap rings popped off they may not delivery power (engage) to wheel.

Do you know the flange part # ? I figured if im putting new axles in i should have a solid connection point for them so there is no slipping possible.

Replace the diff oil seal, too. It's $15 and right there when the axle is out, and you will be unhappy when you have to pull the CV again because it started to leak at some point down the road. (Ask me how I know)

Would you know if these fit for the LX470 as well? I am assuming "yes" .. but wanted to ask just in case. I am in the same boat as OP but for a LX470. Thanks!

Yes, same parts.

Anyone try these from Nitro? Are they worth it/ any feedback from fellow forum members?
"Standard Aftermarket Replacement for either left or right side.
Not Recommended for off-road use.
Not recommended for use with oversize tires."

I'd say they are just as good as any other overseas ones. In other words, mediocre.

I’m about to do both front drive shaft replacements with OEM parts on my 2000 LC.
Are there any additions or substitutions to @abuck99 ’s great parts list above in post #3 ?

Any preferred suppliers ?

To the OP, Norwalk Toyota has good prices. I picked up my axles from their dealership. the CA sales tax is a push with shipping from McGeorge on the east coast. PLUS you can inspect the parts upon pick up (the splines on mine poked through the box---they were not damaged, though)

The Norwalk guys are active on Mud, too

Thanks a ton for putting this list together.

Just want to confirm all 6 snap rings (per side) are recommended? I have an FSM arriving in a couple days.. might be clear once I have that anyway. But looking to order all this asap (since shipping currently is terrible everywhere).
