Stock to what 60/62?

Tapage and 3putt, nice wheels!

Thanks dude .. !

Resurrecting the thread here...

If spacers are needed, what would be the max recommended thickness before longer studs are needed? I found a set of wheels I want, but they only come in 4" backspacing, so I'll need 1/4" spacers at a minimum to clear my 4Runner calipers.

Does anyone know of any black rims that require no spacers and all you have to do is pu them on?

I've been lookin, but haven't had any luck so far. When I get new wheels they'll be 10" wide, and I couldn't find any with our bolt pattern that were even close in backspacing, with the exception of a set of black Cragar wheels with 4" backspacing. I don't like the idea of using spacers at all, so I'll use the thinnest I can get away with while still being able to clear my calipers.

mines not requires those spacers .. but it was about my idea, more with, less body damage.

Here is what I know.

I have some Amer Racing alloys on the 4Runner, 15x8 with 3.75" backspacing. They just barely rubbed the tie-rod ends. Actually wore through the rubber boots. They could not be balanced with the pound on weights on the inside of the rim since the TRE would knock them off. Installing x-over steering solved this problem. Then I bought a set of custom steels from U.S Wheel via Summit Racing, 15x8 with 3.5" backspacing. The steel wheels hit my V6 calipers (the alloys did not). The grinder took care of that. Of course this isn't a 60, but the principle still applies.

Vehicle two is a 1969 FJ40 with mini-truck disk brakes and V6 calipers. Two wheels are custom U.S. Wheel 15x8 rims with 3.5" backspacing. The other two were on the truck when I bought it and were already 3.5" backspacing. As with the 4Runner they hit the calipers and I used 1/4" spacers behind the front wheels (spacers came with the boneyard knuckle parts). Seems I needed to use a little bit of grinder on the calipers, but not much.

During my search I found that 3.5" backspacing was not a common option in steel wheels. Alloys are still available in 3.75" IIRC. U.S Wheel will make anything you want, but they do come bare metal. I went through Summit Racing. As I recall there was no additional cost for the custom wheels, except for painting/powder.

The mos backspaced wheel that I ever seen, was about 2.75 backspacing .. in 4WheelParts when I boughtmines .. found the less at 3.00 backspacing ..
