My 200 if you are asking truck. I leave the 40 at home. The 200 is much more comfortable and better suited with the longer wheel base. Remember this is the 200 section :)

That is true, I was wondering if you were going to tow the 40 out with the 200 to have the best of both worlds. I almost never leave the 40 section. The whole CM thing piqued my interest. 🙃

I have the best of both worlds with what I am towing. Nice and comfortable off road vehicle and a nice Aussie comfortable Karavan. Although this trip wont be towing it on the trail

Now back to the 200 series section discussion of Cruise Moab. Sorry for the digression, the moderator here can be a pain so better get back on topic

For those going to Cruise Moab, there is a requirement to have an FRS Radio. Buying an FRS/GMRS Radio gives you more capability and power. These models are on sale through Monday if you dont have one

This is what I have and is 25% off this week

GXT1000VP4 Two-Way GMRS Radio - https://midlandusa.com/collections/lxtgxt/products/gxt1000vp4
Thanks for the heads up. My radio game is weak in understanding, but I do have a ham license and a uhf/vhf radio. I can program the right frequencies and lower the transmitting power and should be ok, right? would rather not add another radio.

If you have a baofeng or btech handheld ham radio you can program in the FRS and GMRS channels and it will work. Note that doing so is not legal as they will transmit more power than the FCC allows, but yes technically you can do it and it works just fine...

I cant speak to the ability of using HAM on FRS. I have a HAM and as a leader if everyone on my trail has a HAM, that is what we will use. I have a built in FRS/GMRS in my truck as well for improved power and distance. I also have these radios which I think are good to have as hand held units as you can give them to family members and keep in contact if they go on a hike

I believe at Tech Inspection you will be asked for an FRS Radio. The HAM hack may not be allowed as it isnt legal and we operate under Federal permits

I wish a HAM license was just made a requirement for all participants. Or at least having a HAM radio so they can listen to instructions/conversation on the trail.

I was hoping to not have to pick up another radio that would just sit unused (right next to the CB) but I believe my Garmin Rino does FRS in addition to GMRS.

You can get them for under 30 bucks a pair. They come in handy more often than I thought they would.

Most groups have moved on from CBs to FRS. LCDC is FRS. I actually ripped out the CBs in mine and my daughters trucks and replaced them with FRS/GRMS.

No where the quality of our HAM radios, but significantly better than CB. I resisted getting an FRS for two years, but after using one I scrapped the CB and bought an FRS/GRMS mobile unit

I have a mobile unit and hand held unit FRS/GMRS and the Hand held is cheap and will get you everything you need for the trail runs. Mobil units have better range and clarity

still HAM is King and use that when I can

I've done a simple HAM program to talk to FRS on several trails such as LCDC the last 2 years with zero issues. It's not a major issue whatsoever. Organizers just need to verify the comms can be recieved and can be transmitted. The radios are frequency driven not radio type driven so it should be a non factor regardless of power. The FCC is not gonna swoop in and issue citations for powe, etc.

Just a correction. I am leading Poison Spider Mesa Thursday and Fins N Things on Saturday

My gunner will be daughterofromer :)

Tuned into the webinar, but it seemed they somewhat dismissed the question about when trail selection would be. Any ideas?

It was answered in chat stream I thought, March 5th at 8AM If I recall correctly

You should be getting Cruise Moab emails if you’re registered. They details on trail selection are outlined in the webinar email. If you’re not receiving the emails, check your settings, or advertisement folders.
