🤷‍♂️ My 2019 works fine. I've used it multiple 1000s of miles from sea level to 10k feet. 40 MPH to 90s. No issues. My 2009 Tacoma behaved like you describe. Full throttle to bump up 2mph. PITA.

Works fine in my 19 as well. At least until my last trip where it got some bouncing around off road and now the set speed works sometimes others it doesn't which is irritating. On long trips I have come to really appreciate it.

My 13 Taco behaved like you and OP described. Ha now I remember where I seen your handle before, over on TW 👍

I have yet to drive a vehicle whose cruise control works right in mountains. I only use it on flat open freeways.
My wife's 2019 RAM 2500 with the 6.4 gas and my old 2016 and 2018 Dodge Charger R/Ts had zero trouble in the mountains with their cruiser control. The high torque of those HEMI V8's are fantastic for keeping speed. I'd imagine with another 100~120ft.lbs. of torque these 4.6's wouldn't have this issue as much if at all.

Agreed. The 1UR-FE doesn't make much torque at low RPMs. My old 5.4 F150 pulled plenty hard at 1500 rpm on the highway but the GX has to downshift for any real power. Heck it might be better off if they left the 5 speed in it.

I have a 2011 Avalon and it is almost perfect with the power to weight and torque curve. Goes straight up any hill at 1500 rpm. The GX has a poor power to weight ratio and not enough low end torque like you said.

Put some 35" tires on your Avalon and see how it does on the hills! :p

Two more data points: I’ve had no issues with my radar cruise on my 2022, although my 2006 100 series CC basically behaved exactly as you originally described 😂
