Started building my custom roof rack. Here are some progress shots as well as where it stands today. It's very solid and much sleeker looking than I though it would be. Yet to come is a wind deflector and LED lights all the way around. Even more but I'll post those when it happens. If anyones interested I can post more details on parts I used and how I've kept it under $500 so far.

Luckily I was able to respond to some ad's (fellow mud member and CL) who were very awesome and I will have armor all the way around! Couldn't pass up the deals! Probably a smittybilt winch for the front. I have one on my Tacoma and it's great.

I dunno. I'm torn. Part of me wants to sand it and rattle can it and the other says strip it and coat it. Old 4x4labs but I couldn't pass it up for the price.

Got some pictures of James Tiberius Kirk aka Buttstain. Just wanted to share. He's a little fat. My brother who is a vet tells me all the time. Maybe I should do something about it.

Finally got the harness (Susquehanna Motorsports) installed today for the headlights. They're awesome! So glad I didn't cheap out and went with the JW Speakers.

Got some mild wheeling in also. First time the truck was in 4 other than pavement. Did well and I'm more confident going forward. Just easing it in. Fire trails behind Boca resorvoir.

Was playing Metro Exodus on the PC and saw this poor 80 series. Pretty cool they incorporated it. My apocalypse car would definitely be a running one :D

Picked up this guy today. If I have time tomorrow I will be installing the front bumper with it. After watching Matts Off Road recovery on youtube I'm convinced this is the way to go!

Got the 4x4labs bumper installed. Had to work with Luke a little bit to get it going but he was super helpful. Told me this was one of his older ones. The craftsmanship is top notch. I'm extremely pleased with the results! I realized though afterwards that I reasembled the spindles incorrectly but have fixed them since taking the pictures. I will say though, I was a bit scared cutting off the rear cross member. Now this thing can never be a stock beauty queen again. Not that it would though :p

Got some updates. Roof rack is completed. Here are some shots before and after I had it powdercoated. VERY happy with the results. This thing is stout!

Very tasteful upgrades! I was about to shoot you a note asking what brand of roof rack you had, then saw your build thread, then got my answer :)

Nice rig!

Thanks! I was going to go with a much more expensive roof rack but decided to build my own which I think turned out much better. I've had several 60 owners asking me about the roof rack. I'm thinking if I get enough interest I might have a proper kit designed and available for purchase. My goal would be to keep the entire thing under $800.

Installed LED's in the dash and a digital temp gauge since I don't really trust the stock gauge. The LED's are REALLY bright even on the lowest setting. The setting shown here is on the highest.

"Overheating" has been a concern for me since I've owned the car. I noticed that the gauge was all over the place after driving it for a while. Also, I was a culprit of the Fuel/Temp gauges spiking sometimes. I pulled apart the Fuel gauge and lightly sanded the contact which caused the problem (found on another mud thread) and haven't seen that one since. In 95 degree weather driving up to Tahoe during the summer I saw the stock gauge sitting between the 1/2 and 3/4 mark which freaked me out. I drove my dads 62 for YEARS and it barely ever went above the 1/4 mark even when towing a boat. So something is not right. I've replaced the entire cooling but something still just doesn't seem right. Onto the temp gauge...

One of the challenges was trying to find a place to put a second temp sensor. I didn't want to drill into the thermostat housing or anywhere else for that matter and found a neat little thing on Amazon. Fully warmed up my temp sits around 197 according to the gauge which may or may not be right. Infrared thermometer puts it at 190 when the gauge reads 197. I guess I don't mind as long it's consistent and I know that 197=190. It did climb up to 206 at one point but eventually dropped back down. Could've been the t-stat being slow to open even thought it too, is brand new. The things I changed were the tstat, radiator and fan clutch. I also burped the system. Heater blows hot so I know that's not it.

Anyway, what do you all think?
