Hey folks! It's been a few months now but I recently picked up an 80 series and THIS is my "build" thread. Build is quoted because this damn thing is pretty built as it stands. Realistically it's more of a "make it my own" thread. I hope you all enjoy!

Having both an FJ40 and FJ62 the next on the list was obviously an 80. A triple locked 1997 40th Anniversary FZJ80. Been looking for an 80 for few years now and the right one finally came up. Many of you probably saw it in the classifieds section of mud so yeah! I'm the guy that bought it! :p Sale thread here. It's probably built way more than I would have done it if I started with a stock one but I'm not complaining. Thing rides like a dream and is in excellent condition! For now it's going to be my daily driver until I get it exactly how I want. Living in SF owning 4 cars and only 1 garage space to park means the other 3 are in storage and I just don't want to deal with shuffling them around. Main daily is a 2003 Toyota Tacoma that I've owned for nearly 20 years.

Long story short, dad and I flew out to Denver and road tripped back to the Bay Area by way of SLC for the Heritage Museum and Truckee where we have a cabin. More details on that trip later on.

I affectionately named her Betty after Betty White who I really admired because she drank every day and lived to 99.

First order of business was getting the thing smogged. It had 49 states legal cats on it but it was headed to THAT ONE STATE where THAT JUST ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH. I was nervous about getting it to pass but eventually did with flying colors once I sourced the right cat's. I went with Magnaflows.

Painted them with BBQ paint so they last a little longer. If you look closely there is a 40 back there. It's a future project of mine for a full restoration and is technically my 2nd 40.

Next order of business was fixing the "little" things that didn't work as well as cosmetics. These are still very much underway but some progress shots. Starting with wood glam. Picutres of how it looked vs how it is now. Pulled the console thing out and soaked it hot water. Removing the old wood grain s*** takes patience, a heat gun, and fingernails. Was able to preserve the 40th badge inside the truck and reapply it. Very happy with how it turned out.

Made some fun vinyl stickers with my Cricut. If anyone is considering getting a Cricut, do it. I make tshirts and stickers for next to nothing.

A lot of the updates are out of order at this time, but going forward the timeline will be as they go. There is so much to say about what I went through getting this thing but I just wanted to start the page. Stay tuned! Cheers and Happy Holidays. Merry Christmas!

Congratulations on getting it passed CA emissions can be a bear.
