Kina- How much do you think it would cost to actually do this??

somewhere between too much for you and too little for me....

Paul is doing a super nice job there, can't wait to hear pricing/availability
been thinking of this for years
I do like that photochop merbes

drop off the troopy, John, we'll do a test chop

Test chop.....sounds painful.

Kina- Why not chop your blue troopy with the dead engine? Then I would certainly drop mine off!

been a while,
Currently remaking all new doors, and handles..etc..going over all before we remount to the frame, and plop on the bed.
Answering a few questions..
we built this from scratch, taking into account that we will use the bed to carry weight, and proberbly a lot, I had made some of those 40 cab on´s, extra cabs etc in the past, but they all seemed to have draw backs, George is spot on with the structural b piller, If you throw a pile of weight in the bed, you will soon see structural damage, doors on the cock, twisted 3rd brace, mounts getting twisted, windows twisting out of their frames.(seen it) etc.. Its a long frame, not that strong and moves..without additional support.
the supports for this bed are seperate from the rest(as an oem lpb)
this obviously spreads the weight..not allowing it to pass into the cab..
I guess it depends on what your going to be using the truck for in the end..whatever your choice they all still looks great.
Rear seats..on this one we wil be using either 2004 landcruiser middle seats or Montero centre seats. The Montero has 2.5 the lc only has two,.we will see..
I´ll post some photos mon .tues
Thanks for the support.
Paul.

Merbesfield,

I know what you mean about the RHD, but I must say that I find them more comfortable than the LHD. I am 6'6", and driving a LHD 40 series is difficult for me at-best with a factory-sized steering wheel. I really can't drive a pre-81 FJ40, as the seats don't recline. On my 1983 US-Spec FJ40, I was able to drive her fine with a 60 series steering wheel, but I could not comfortably use the clutch with the factory wheel.

I drove RHD in the US for 8 years before moving to Australia, and it really just becomes second nature. The only real difficulty to over-come is drive-through banking:) When we move back, I will likely have all RHD vehicles, so it will still be 'normal' for me.

The only hard part for me is when I am back in the US visiting, and driving my HJ47. I have a helluva time remembering to stay on the other side of the road.:D It takes me a week or two to get comfortable driving on the right in a RHD. I'm fine going back and forth in correct-hand-drive rigs, because you always stay to the centre of the road.

Cheers,

Josh

photochop, this is what I want ;)

You gotta stop putting that pic of my truck up.....makes me want to spend all sorts of money I don't have!

John,

Think of it as spending money for the good of us all. You will be blazing new trails, for those of us less fortunate. Surely you could use this altruistic reasoning to convince the family banker to allow you to spend that money:)

Cheers,

josh

Ahhh....the greater good! The wife is slightly grumpy with her car out in the rain and a parts cruiser in her spot in the garage so bringing up any cruiser ideas would be bad timing.

She did say that it's a shame my son Declan will have to climb over the front seats all the time.......

That's it John! If you can't appeal to altruism, than appeal to safety (always works for Uncle Sam). "Honey, it would just be SO much safer if Declan had his own door to use..." Never mind the fact that generations of children grew up climbing over seats and lived to tell the tale... details.

As for her car being out in the rain, well... I'm afraid you are on your own there.:)

Cheers,

Josh

Now that is the one that I want.

me too!!! just round those rear doors to match the front and I think you got a winner!!!
