I've gotten mine off several times with a long bar added to the breaker bar, radiator out, and a decent screw driver wedges between the flywheel teeth and the frame. No issues. But after reading this whole thread, if you've tried all these other ways and nothing is working, you need a big ass impact
FINALLY GOT IT!!! Took about 30 seconds with my new 800 ft lb impact wrench!! All the work up to here must have loosened it!! Thanks to all the MUDDERS for your help and advice. Your encouragement kept me going!

Husky 800 ft/lb impact wrench from Home Depot. Used small 8 gal compressor from Harbor Freight cranked to 125 PSI. Replaced 1/4" air hose with 3/8". I like to think all the work before using the impact wrench loosened it up ! But.... 30 seconds after putting socket to nut it came off! Been celebrating ever since. I can do anything now!
I have one to do and I am reading all the threads I can find. I am reading all these starter crank methods to break it loose, but what is the shop method to remove this nut if you do have the tool you would want? Will an impact wrench work?

That's how I got mine off. Had radiator out though which gave me room to get the impact in there. Hit it one time and it came right off. Easy peasy. HTH.

I'll bet the shop uses whatever method the tech is familiar with. Many techs wouldn't go 'by the book' for this one. I have had 100% success with the starter bump method on several Land Cruisers, Camrys, 4Runners, etc.
I went straight for my air gun on this job. All those other tricks are for poor people. Lol...kidding... or people who don’t want to remove the radiator.
I got told a lot of things at the time I was getting mine off about how hard it was going to be. Made me dread this job at the time. Read all the starter bump posts about how great it was for getting these off, but seemed risky to me (check orientation). I was ready to do it but on a whim I just tried an impact to see if there was any chance that would get it. One hit and it came flying off like nothing to it. I was shocked sitting there with the nut in my hand after 3 seconds of work. Either mine was loose to begin with, I just got lucky, or its just not that big a deal. I am not sure how you could work in there too well with the radiator in place so making room for an impact by removing the radiator seems like a no brainer. I don't recall what the OP needed the nut off for but there are only a handful of reasons to get this nut off, all of which are made infinitely easier if the radiator is out IMHO. I know removing the radiator seems like a bunch of work but I was sure glad it was out on mine while working in that area. FYI FSM has you putting some oil on the inside of the nut when you put it back on if memory serves. HTH.
