It was already a sad day. I was at the card shop with my 4yr old getting some guidance on how much I could sell some of my old school Magic: The Gathering cards I’ve had since the mid 90s for.

I was running pretty low on fuel so I filled all the way up at Chevron (my preferred fuel choice) on the way to the store. After finishing at the card shop, the cruiser no longer wanted to start. Just chugged and chugged. Luckily I keep a code reader in the car.

Some of the codes included P2401 and PO43E. Don’t ask me why I didn’t write them all down. I thought I could clear them and be on my way for some reason. Internet says these are related to evap stuff. It ran okay during the 15 min commute from the gas station to the game store.

But honestly, I think these codes might have already been in the system. The TRAC OFF, 4LO (flashing), and CEL all came on yesterday after sitting in the garage.

I thought I was being careful turning off everything, but in the end, I guess I tinkered around so much, that I couldn’t even jump start myself any longer. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Check the EFI Fuse. Even if it isn't blown, replace it anyway. I had issues with my 2000 100 series AND my 2008 200 series with fretted (worn on the blades) EFI fuses causing a crank but no start condition. New fuse and no issues since, and this was 3 years ago on the 200.

Great response and idea! Thank you @TimCFJ40!

I was fortunate to get it over to a local Toyota dealership and in the hands of a good friend who somehow made time to look at it this morning. He said that it has no fuel pressure and he's hoping it's not the fuel pump since I had told him I just topped it off right before all this happened.

I just shared your thoughts with him.

How many miles on it? I’m nearing 200k and will be doing fuel pump soon as PM because a few people have had issues with them so far.

177,000

I can't help but wonder if I got bad gas. Is that a thing in this day and age? As noted in my first post, I try to be picky on what fuel I put in.

Most of my Toyota's, including my last two Land Cruisers I've built up, have had around or over 200k and I don't recall ever having to replace a fuel pump. Maybe its to be expected and I've just been lucky?

Did you use the green nozzle?
If green=diesel, that's what my parents wondered. But then I thought the diesel nozzles were different diameters. So I looked it up and found this:

"Diesel nozzles are wider than gasoline nozzles, which means a diesel nozzle won't fit into your gasoline vehicle's tank. Diesel drivers should take extra caution, though, because the smaller gasoline nozzle will easily fit into diesel filler necks."

Not necessarily. Tons of stories of folks putting diesel in their gas cars.

If it was diesel you’d know right away opening the gas cap and smelling

Even if had contaminated fuel, wouldn't it have some fuel pressure? Bad fuse or pump or pump ecu seem more and more likely? Odd that happened right after a full tank fill up.

With power going in, but not coming out, it appears to be the fuel pump control box that’s bolted to the frame.
The part # is 89571-60060.

It also seems this is a dealer only part and the closest one to UT that we can find is a week out at Rochester Toyota in NY.

The biggest downer is that I haven’t told the kids they’re not going camping with their cousins after all.
