(No, not that.)

When using the starter-bump method to loosen the crank bolt, do you lash the bar to the bottom of the PASSENGER side? After disconnecting coil wire and putting 14mm deep socket on flex plate and turning crank to get the socket tight against WHICH side of the inspection port? Thanks!

Do not leave the 14 in there if you are crank bumping the bolt loose, won’t be good thing

Just buy the CPA tool.

Or pay the shipping with a deposit = the cost of the tool and I will send you mine 😎

Yeah sorry, getting my techniques mixed up...

Have the tool, thanks; I'm trying to explain the options to someone else, but need to get my facts straight...

Found a video from @MoJ; it's the passenger side. :)

Cannot find the answer anywhere else so I thought I would ask it here.
Does the crank bolt need to be replaced each time? It’s got a stupid tight torque but it doesn’t seem to be a torque to stretch so I would guess the old one can be reused? Thoughts or answers?

Most reuse the old one.

Mine was torched off so... Cheap enough; if your concerned, buy new.

If there's not a black diamond next to the part in the FSM (Factory Service Manual) then according to Toyota that part/fastener can be reused assuming no obvious damage.

Never did it on my 80 for the front oil leaks, but did it recently on my 3.4 runner for a timing belt job before a 2700mi road trip. I'm not worried about the technique, but not a fan of actually doing it, as it brings out my wuss. Haven't looked into it for the 80 so maybe it's different.. although some reuse the bolt on the 3.4, time and time again it was recommended to replace it. I can't remember if that's what the FSM says too. Regardless, I replaced it. Pretty cheap, so I saw no reason not to.

I snapped a breaker bar trying to bump it loose with the starter and a 1/2” drive breaker bar. So far I’m not worried. I just wanted to see if it was stretch or not.
I might be nuts but I replaced my crank bolt, It took more than 800 Lbs to loosen my crank bolt. I had to use a torque multiplier to remove the crank bolt, the torque multiplier + crank holder with tool (with welded on brace) made it a piece of cake (once I finally used the multiplier) bump start failed, Milwaukee impact failed.
I also replaced my Crank Pulley, Crank Pulley technically only has a 10 year working lifespan due to the vulcanized rubber (its science look it up) but you wont find that in a service manual

Lets see how meany pages we can get out of should I replace a bolt 😂

CPA crank tool with a 1/2" breaker bar to hold it & a 3/4" x 40" long breaker on the socket/bolt made it easy

I replaced harmonic balancer because of wear on the seal surface

I reused the bolt.
There closer to 2.5 pages :p

Anyone who is looking at this and wants the crank bolt removal tool, just DM me and we can work it out for you to borrow mine and pay me a deposit of the price of the tool (obviously to be returned once I get it back, so you just pay shipping both ways). It's just sitting in a drawer. I would rather have it used more than just sit. Cheers. I owe Mud a lot more than that.

I have looked over the FSM a few times looking and I must not have seen this. I am new to the land cruiser and the FSM. Thanks for the help.
