so I've been watching for about 2 months and a 2011 W/110k miles, loaded, clean carfax, and in superb condition popped up for $36k. I've been watching it for a week, and finally went to see it. Didn't drive it. I'm trying to find a reason not to buy it. We'd be trading in our 2016 golf wagen for it. I've got a family of 4 and it's simply too small. Also it sucks in snow and big SUV/truck drivers in the area bully smaller cars. That said I like getting 34mpg and $300/yr full coverage insurance. Arguements for, or against this truck would be appreciated.

That's a good price for sure, I just bought an 08 for 26k that has a great maintainance history and drives beautifully, but was dirty and has a few minor cosmetic issues, with 130,000 on it. I would go for an 11 at that price. I also just got rid of a car that got much better fuel economy, but needed a larger vehicle with third row seats, and this is my fourth land cruiser, and without a doubt, the 200 series is fantastic. I do like the 100 series, but I think for most family applications, the 200 is a better choice at this point, and the 5.7 is buttery smooth and powerful.
Good luck with the decision, I don't think you can go wrong with it! J

Not trying to convince you, but I love my 2Hundy. And my :princess: does, too.

If you wanted to be talked out of it...you definitely came to the wrong forum! ;)

So let's cut to the chase.

You know you want it...& it's a good price if everything checks out...

Check it...drive it...buy it.

*Parting shot:

30 years from now, you won't look back at your Land Cruiser family travel photos and say...
"Oh, if only we'd gotten better MPG when the kids were growing up..."

Life is short.
Childhood is extremely short.
Live!

I love my 2011, so I'm not talking you out of it. I'd suggest driving it and I bet you love it. If all checks out and all is good, hammer out a good deal (which by your post, you already have a good deal) and drive away knowing you don't need to worry about anything for quite some time. I've been in Toyota's (all 4-runners) since 1994 and I can truly say there is just something different about the LC. Since day 1 it still puts a smile on my face when I get in it. I keep going back and forth wanting a 2017 but haven't done it yet. Go test drive it, that should be step one. Good luck.

You would just be using it like u do the golf? Driving around town? But want the ability to handle snowy roads? Thats not really a tall order. A highlander could do that, or you could step it up to a Seqouia. Just using a 200 series for getting around town is a dreary life for a 200 series, and the driver of such 200 series.

34mpg?

Lol.

Man, there's no WAY you are going to get that good of gas mileage....

Double the gallons, double the pleasure.
:)

A lot of good points, especially on the sentimental side. I'll likely be taking the wife to go see it again and have her drive it. Maybe she'll stop fighting me over our 77's keys.

I have been looking at the 200's because of the tow rating. The only other contender for me is a tdi Tuareg but the v6's are still under lock and they don't offer 3rd row seating.

Do both... kinda

I bought my 2011 with 86k on the clock for $38k.

Then I bought a $2000 '03 Jetta as my daily beater. The gas mileage of just to and from work savings and freedom to work on my 200 and not have to get it back together for work is well worth it in my opinion.

Plus I don't worry about big trucks trying to bully me in the ultra cheap Jetta. "Hit it di*k heads, I'll get more for the insurance than I paid for the car!"

Buy it. In a few months of owning it, if you've got buyer's remorse, sell it for what you paid for it.

Of all the vehicles I've owned, it's the one's that I never bought, that I miss the most....

Don't buy it.... you will never look at cars the same. Everything else will seem soo inferior that you will not be able to love any other car. I am speaking from first hand experience coming from a twin turbo V12 Mercedes. I used to always ask the Mercedes salesman what car does one buy after owning an S600? They were always clueless, the answer is a 200 land cruiser.

I don't know what else you drive (have driven), but I'll toss in here that getting a 200 could greatly expand your thoughts about possible family adventures. Getting behind the wheel of one of these amazing machines just makes you want to go to adventuring and it won't be long before you're doing what Land Cruisers were built for: to take folks to the most interesting places in the world and get them back safely. Go do a test drive and take your checkbook.

ive got a PZJ77 for my family adventure truck, but a trip to Moab would be killer in it with the whole family. The 70 will eventually go to my son, perhaps the 200 could be for my daughter.

Your statement reminds me of my B5S4. I put a lot of time and money into it, loved it and hated it. No other car has measured up.

Well don't get the feeling you are gonna lose a good deal. I am shopping around for pretty much the same thing for 3 months now and watching prices. There are 3 near me at slightly better prices and mileage.....nothing drastic 1000 miles less or 1000 dollars better. Even got in a conversation with a dealer about how wild TLC prices are. I find 2008 models for the same price and similar mileage as I do 11's .....and even a couple of 13's.??? WTF So I started noticing some dealers just get them and put them on the lot using the Blue Bk price.. Other guys jack them up and know there are "gear head vultures like us" always circling and watching for a good deal. The car dealer I was talking to drove a LC and was moving up to a newer one. Needless to say he keeps his prices high for a while although a time comes when they have to move a vehicle after it has sat for xx number of days.... and they get more negotiable

I think prices may get a bit better or at least seem reasonable now for the vehicle. But the cost of addons is getting crazy.
