I recently acquired a locked 98. It’s fairly battered on the passenger side, however, to me it’s worth saving. At the end of the month it’s going to the body shop for all the body work and complete color change. Personally I want Toyota color code 4E9 but my wife doesn’t. She loves the cavalry blue or cement gray but she doesn’t think it would look good on a 100. Whatever color we choose, it will be a single stage basic color. I plan steel wheels and no chrome. Does anyone out there have examples of similar or like colors on a 100 or any ideas of what would look good? ThanK you for any input and interest! Also, I do have it up for trade, but once it’s at the body shop I’m keeping it for the long term.

This thread shows both cavalry blue and cement grey if that's what you wanted to see.
Thank you. Those are definitely two colors at the top of my list, however I am hoping for many ideas too.

Two of my favorites:

Desert Bronze Metallic

Huh. I've been pondering black handles recently. So that's what it would look like.

Cavalry Blue is a favorite of mine. I really dig the cement gray, army green and quicksand colors as well, but I feel like they all need contrasting colors on the truck to really look good. (Bumpers, rack, etc.)

Do you mean @Mdej3 ’s “Quicksand” or @Exiled ’s “other” ?

I’ve seen Exiled’s 100 series in person, at one of the Austin TX meetups, and it is beautiful. The picture really doesn’t do it justice.

I’ve never seen Mdej3’s vehicle in person, but if I ever do a color change on my 100 series, that’s where I’m leaning.

(From a guy that formerly thought that NGO white was the only color.)

It’s the quicksand. I do like white too though.

quicksand / dune tan what ever you call it is my favorite on a 100,

My quicksand 4v6 color with contrasting black door handles and black rear panel vents…just to add a bit of perspective.

I believe that’s the first Quicksand LX that I’ve seen, and I like it!

How much are you all paying for these paint jobs? I know the cost can vary widely but was wondering about it as my paint needs some saving, lots of swirls, knicks all over the door frame, and spots on the hood where the clear is gone. Maybe I'll just change the entire color scheme haha.

But to answer OP's question a flat grey or cement grey is my favorite.

I am budgeting $7500. I’m getting a good deal because I made the arrangements with the body guy, from whom I bought it from. There is a moderate amount of body work needed to be done. That price was also based on a single stage paint, so nothing fancy or metallic or pearl.

I think Calvary Blue looks horrible on 100's but I guess I'm in the minority.

I think Sand Dollar Pearl (4R2) is the best looking 100 series color they ever made. But its not single stage, so no dice. I'd vote quicksand for the modern colors. I've always wanted to see what Army Green looked like on a 100 series as well.

I’m a sucker for the one coat 056 natural white. Also like the early green 100s and Pacific Blue Metallic (8R3)

Either white, with no clearcoat or metallic so you can buff within a micron of it's life, or chalkboard paint and let the kids go nuts with chalk for a different look every week

Seriously though, keeping the same colour will potentially make for a significantly cheaper solution. You won't need to do the engine bay and might get away with a 'closed-door-respray'.

Dunno what it's like in the US, but a colour change usually lowers pricing here in Oz and you'll always have telltale evidence of the original colour unless you completely tear down the vehicle.

Probably the same in the US, BUT…

1) Most of the factory colors on the US LC/LX seem to be “multistage” with metal flakes, pearl, or colored clear coat, which I would imagine costs more a than a single stage paint job.

2) Resale on a modified 25 year old vehicle, with 250k mi, peeling clear coat, and off road pin stripes, really isn’t very high on my priority list.

(If you’re not going to address the door jambs, under hood, etc, I’d tend to avoid drastic color changes that are going to stand out or clash.)
