We are considering moving GSMTR 2013 to Coalcreek and need to check out the event area and trails. We need to make a decision soon to get everything booked.
The proposed dates are June 8-10 or June 15-17. Who wants to ride and which weekend is best? Here is a link to there site-http://www.coalcreekohv.com/
and one for the campground-http://www.windrockpark.com/

Count me in for June 8-10!!

Either may work for me gonna put some goodyear mt kevlar on truck in the next wk or so

I'm a big maybe. I really want to go, the weekend is free, the truck should be good enough to make it, but I don't know that I'll have enough fuel or money for fuel for the tow rig by then.

I can't go either of those weekends. I am free the weekends of the 2nd,23rd and 30 th.

Windrock is great, 72000 acres of every kind of trail. Camping accommodations are first rate but the only down fall I can think of is the $17/person/day cost. A family could get bit in the arse.

We are considering the cost, we only had 17 kids this year and several did not ride. You can cut the cost a little by buying a 3 or 4 day pass. If you are going to ride more than 5 days in the year a season pass is not too bad. I was there for Southerns Trailfest and the people I talked to said it was worth the extra cost. Also the cost of the event area is less than GM so we will be able to cut the cost of registration.

I replied in the other thread just to keep with the crowd.

Lower registration would certainly help offset the additional cost. I'm sure you already have considered this so tell me to shut up but how many passengers and wives were there?

Sadly I will not be able to go. I really look forward to hearing what everyone has to say about the park since I have never been.

Of the weekends Andy suggested I can only do the 30th. On call the other 2.

I can go most any weekend with a little notice. The 4th of July is on a Wed., which weekend will people celebrate it? cause if it's the 30th/1st I don't want to be at Coal Creek.

I'd Love to check it out. I haven't been there yet, but I'm eager to get an idea of what it's like.

I'm in if no other conflicts get in the way. I don't have a preference given the date. I've never been to coal creek.

I'm in too if work doesn't schedule me. I'll know for sure or not closer to the date

Why the switch to CC?

I think GSMTR is the best event around and GMP is one of the best all-around parks in the SE. Everything is close to camp, having the pavilion is nice for inclement weather, nice to be able to fish a bit too.

Cc is nice, but is is more expensive, the trails are more spread out, it kind of like running into others on the trail at GMP, but not a Tellico style traffic jam. On the other hand its kind of weird not passing anyone all day.

If you saw a 95-04 Tacoma at GSMTR they were more than likely with our group (TTORA) and I think I can speak for all of them but I think we would choose GMP over CC.

IMO the trails at CC are too easy or too hard for stockers, and if you count them out there really arent a whole bunch of trails for trucks out of the 60 or so total trails. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy Cc everytime but if I had to pick itd be GMP.

Btw, June is hot. May would be better for us folks that dont have the luxury of an air conditioned camper or RV. The first GSMTR at GMP was in June and it was miserable at night.

The date being discussed is for a pre-run/exploration next month. Don't confuse this with the dates of GSMTR next year. Those dates were announced. Still May. I see your comments here regarding the change and see you found the discussion in the GSMTR thread - go ahead and keep the discussion going over there where they can be see. This is simply a thread for planning a prerun.

I have run all most all of CCs trails either on a mtb, dirt bike, or my 80. To think there aren't enough truck trails is just wrong. In the past two years CC has cut numerous trails that are big enough for trucks i.e. 32,41,42,43,49,47, and the list goes on and on. The new land manager at CC has made it a goal for CC to cut 200 new miles of multi purpose trails as he is a Jeeper and saw CC losing its truck crowd.

Most people only travel up and down the main corridor of P1 and never fully experience the full 70,000+ acres. For instance have you ever made the run out 52,53, up to the Flats and back? That is perfect for stockers and takes almost all day. Another great run for stockers is up 35 or 36 making a loop around 27 and 26. Another great one is 28,30, to 32. The list goes on and on. If you think there aren't enough truck trails you simply have not looked. Sorry to be so frank, but living 15 minutes away and being within its borders probably 3-4 days a week I have just about seen all of CC. Furthermore if you stay away from the P1 corridor, which gets hogged out by the ATV crowd almost all of CC can be run in the wet. The North section of CC is particularly great in the rain as it is mostly rock.

Since this was my first GSMTR I don't pretend to understand what its about. But as a new comer I was not that impressed with GM and more than likely would never return. It just didn't offer what I was looking for. Trailfest (at CC) or the April Fools ride at Harlan is more of what I expect; long runs with great country to explore and see with out being terrified I was going to break glass. IMO CC has more to offer a broader range of vehicles.

CC's per person fee is ridiculous. Not trying to advocate a move to CC for GSMTR but I am trying to offer a little local knowledge and a GSMTR first timer perspective. Had there not been so many cool Toyotas to look at I would have probably left after mid day on the first day.
