***price update***
Well - after much thought I've decided to sell our off-road trailer. I'll let the photos do the talking...as it has had an awesome life with us, and it's just time to go to a new owner. I'm not going to have time to play with it this summer with my work situation...and we need the cash to pay more important bills with a growing business.
It started out as an ATV trailer - bought from another guy on 'Mud in NY. It came with a fully-sealed aluminum body - with a hinge lid and LED lights - however it was built for hauling behind an ATV - super low to the ground.
I had to build a 2" square tube frame for it, as it wasn't heavy enough for my intended use- and we used some FJ40 springs in lieu of the ATV torsion suspension setup.
I took the spindles off of an FJ40 front axle - and used them for the axle ends...which were welded onto a 2x2 .25" square tube
Custom U-Bolts and top plates mount it to the FJ40 springs. There are a set of FJ40 hubs on it...so if you ever need a spare hub, just pull 'em off the trailer - kind of a fun feature
I'm currently running a set of factory Tacoma rims....and a 31" tire (if I remember size on 'em). They're about 50% tread. There is room for a spare to be mounted either under it, or on the tail - but I never got around to fabbing it up. I do have an extra rim for a spare if you want it.
The trailer does not have brakes...but you could easily add a set of drums or discs brake flanges from another FJ40 - and use a surge-brake setup if you so desired. It wouldn't convert well to an electrical brake setup....but towing it behind my FJ40 and FJ80 I didn't feel the need for brakes on it anyways - as it's not that heavy, even fully loaded I can easily move it around the garage.
You'll probably need to apply for a VIN# and a self-built title for it - as it does not have a VIN #. Depending on your state, you may need to get a VIN, but we just used it off-roading. If this is an issue for the new owner, I can apply for a Colorado homebuilt trailer title and get a VIN assigned - we'll have to discuss that.
It does currently have a nice sized Roof-Top-Tent on it. There is a platform on top that extends vertically and locks in place to raise the tent up to gain access to the storage compartment. It has gas-shocks to assist in lifting the tent platform.
It is fitted with a 5# propane tank bottle attached to the rear - and room for a 5G jerry can for fuel or water on the tongue.
It is large enough to carry enough camping gear for about 3 weeks if you're going on an expedition - seriously, I'm not kidding and I pack heavy
We took it for 2 weeks up into western Colorado and didn't have a need we couldn't fit into the trailer.
Since the tub and tongue-storage boxes are 100% aluminum...it's crazy light - and the steel frame on the bottom helps keep the center of gravity low.
It even has a removable and length-adjustable tongue! I have a Pintle hook equipped tongue, and a 2" ball hitch tongue. You can use the Pintle hook tongue, or the 2" ball tongue for it depending on whether your truck has a pintle hook or ball hitch - and super easy to swap it out!
I also have a very nice propane powered hot-water shower set-up...and a ton of other camping gear that could be negotiated for sale with the unit...but we'll have to see.
It has been so great to take it off-roading and camping -and it'll be missed a lot this summer. I just can't afford to keep it in covered storage...especially when I'm not going to be around to enjoy it.
I'm attaching photos of the build-up and the final product and a few camping trips with it!
Located in Denver, CO Shipping it is even a possibility - depending on where you're located as I own a trucking company....and as always, MudShip is great too!
Asking price is $2200 for it as it sits with the RTT. If you don't need the RTT, then take off $800 for it as it's used, but complete.
