I might be up for another stab at it in a couple of weeks, looks like a ton of trails to explore up there. Would like to spend some time in Jerome too.

The brush was thick but, most of it is the "softer" variety Vs the manzanita and Mesquite we normally see.

Great pics, looks like it was a lot of fun!

I actually saw a lot of you guys rolling into town in the morning. If you noticed a glossy black 04 Monte Carlo w/silver trim going by -- that was me riding shotgun in my GF's car. I wanted to stop and say hi, but we were already running at least 30 minutes late.

I do want to check out one of those trails one day this summer.

Here's a couple questions for the guys that were on this trip running FZJ80s with the 35" tires:

To me it seemed like you still had plenty of power and torque on the runs. (With the exception of Phil's supercharger, is this because you've regeared? And if you haven't regeared, how was the drive coming up the big hills from Phoenix?

Phil's has 37's, supercharger and regeared, done right.

And if you haven't regeared, how was the drive coming up the big hills from Phoenix?

Mine has 295-75/16's Rob's has 315-75/16 commonly called 35". Mine handles the hills well, I haven't driven Rob's on the hills, but he keeps up pretty well. A set of 488 gears would fix it, and I will add them when I do the burf repack. When approaching a hill I turn the overdrive off to get the engine in it's power band and it goes right up, if you let it slow enough to kick down on it's own it's slow to accelerate. The big hill on 17 before Sunset Point we climbed at 65-70 mph.

To me the 315's just look "right" on an 80 series, they will cause a loss of power, but it's truck, not a sports car and they work very well on the trail. A bunch of folks in 80's Tech section will tell you that it requires thousands of dollars of mods to run 35"s, to certain extent they are right, but we have found that by lowering the rear bump stops about 2" or running 1"+ wheel spacers they don't rub regardless of lift and the only compromise is highway power.

Rob's is the blue one, 315's, my white one with 295's;

Man that looks like it was fun!
While you all were out screwing off I had to put in 4 straight 16+ hour days. I sat on my ass all day sunday recooping(and drinking). I F-ing hate inventory!
Well maybe next time :cheers:

I run the 315's and haven't regeared yet, it's slow off the line, but it's a truck. The RPM's are lower at highway speeds but nothing too bad. Going up the long hills it will downshift but keeps up fine with traffic. The only time I dropped it in low range this weekend was when we took on the boulders at the river, haven't ran out of power on low range yet.
