After you saying things like SHIZZLE, I do not think I can participate in this thread any longer...

:flipoff2:

What's wrong with hanging the tire carier off of the rear portion of the frame?
It can sit above and outside of the body easily. Make some extra long recovery shackles that tie into your rear frame. Then mount the pivot in "armpit" that is created by the recovery point. The tire carrier will exist above the rear xmember, so you would not have any interference between the shackles and the carier. You can have the tire carrier latch just hang down and meet up with the rear xmember, or integrate a latching mechanism with the reciever hitch..
Lemme see what I can do in Autocad..

Make sure you include a gas can carrier, two Nato cans would be enough but if you could squeeze in three that would be more shizzleier.:grinpimp:

Id like to see a design of what it is you are thinking on this Mace.
As the current factory x member sits, the outside face of it is pretty much against the end frame. If I stuck a 2x4 or 2x3 on the end of the frame, I THINK it will allow enough clearance...
But Id like to see an idea of what youre thinking. It sounds interesting.

Anyone know of a good source for new body mounts? Im looking for the energy suspension mounts, but the black all seem to be back ordered, or they can only get the RED ones. I got the tub and front clip back on last night, and I realized I wont be able to do a mock up to the best of my ability UNLESS if have a good set of body mounts to get the tub sitting where it NEEDS to be.
The other question....where the bib (i think its the bib) meets the cab... there doesnt seem to be any holes to bolt the two together?!?!? What do you guyz do here?

Here are a couple of pics!

SEE, the fender/ bib is just kinda supported by 4 bolts ONLY. There are two down lower of the slope of the fender, but it seems that it'll kind flop around where the bib meets the cab...

The other two pics are just some shots of the various parts piles that I have layin around. I cant believe what a MESS my shop is right now...Its KILLING ME!:bang:

Can't help you on your questions, but I like the pics.

Those pieces are called aprons and yes, they only bolt down to the fender and the bib (headlight frame) up front. When everything is bolted together up front it is very solid.

Nice pictures, I was looking for my other half door last week.

How thick of body mounts are you looking for?

I have some conveyor belt that is almost exactly like the stuff they used stock.

Alright...thanks for that info Don!
Do they leave that "free" for frame flex?
The PO did a pretty shotty job when he did WHATEVER he did to it, and nothing really lined up right before I took it apart. Is there any adjustments you can do? Although nothing is really SET, it seems that I might have some issues with lining everything up right.

Got it HERE!
You can take it anytime you want it!
I was planning on a whole new body mount set from energy suspension. They did a write up on it in last months Toy 4wheel owners mag. 90 some bucks...Doesnt seem too bad.

BTW, I just ordered the 6 shooter knuckles...
225 bucks shipped complete with hy steer arms.

Daves off road performance.
It was a special that he was running on Pirate. E wheeler hooked me up with it! THANKS BROTHA!
FAWKING RAD!

You ready to help me drop that motha in there?
Im gonna post up a pizza and beer party in the BBCNN site when I get back from Chicago. Figure about 2 weekends from this one!

Should I get the aluminum rad. and taurus fan BEFORE I drop the motor just to be safe? Or do you think we can wing it?

I wanna get that thing in there!

I pretty good at holding other peoples beer while they do the actual work. :hillbilly:

Chicago... you know that my strategy was to get you to do everything I wanted to do so I can just breeze through mine! Looking great!

Not sure about the way the aprons are attached but being "free to flex" sound good and makes sense.

I haven't got far enough to be able to give you a good answer on the adjusting. But it seems to me that if you assemble the fenders, bib, and hood without tightening any of the bolts that you can move things around until everything lines up. At least thats what I often did when I used to install cabinets and they weren't lining up right. Some of the threads I've read make it seem like it can be frustrating but possible. It might help if you hold your tongue just right though.

I got as far as taking the fenders and aprons loose and replacing all the bolts with stainless steel bolts to make future planned work easier. But, I have not taken the time to re-align everything. This past year I had lots of time to do stuff on my 40 but limited energy and couldn't find any of this phantom green paper that is needed to do anything that I have planned.

BTW, I am enjoying and also learning a bunch from your thread. What you are doing is similar to what I hope to some day be able to do to my 40.

DON...
That "Hold your tongue just right" comment made me LAUGH OUT LOUD!
I was out in the garage today, and it seems that the fenders themselves may have the holes off...If I sort of bend the fender and line the apron up, the holes are off. It could be just as simple as re drilling the holes...
Ive gotta get the body mounts before I get to far ahead of myself.
I tend to do this when there is "down time". I cant set the motor just yet, so I have time to get into trouble. I opted to do more body prep in the mean time...constructive!
Glad that this build could help someone. This is an amazing experience so far for me. Ive never done anything on this scale before and Im learning TONS too from the experience and the folks here and on Pirate.
Its surprisingly EASY working on the 40 as compared to the 60. Everything is accessible.

I am ready whenever you are. Just let me know for sure which weekend, so I can plan accordingly. :D

I think you would, at least the radiator and then we can measure back for clearance needed for the fan.

I'll be there.

My 40 is just sitting in the garage, like I said before your welcome to drop by anytime and use it as a reference.
