I am adding PS to my 72 fj40 with a chevy 350 in it. I know there are a ton of posts talking about this but I couldn't find a specific answer.

I need the full PS pump, brackets, reservoir and pulley setup and I need it cheap. The only thing I can say about my 350 is its from the early 70's and it has the stock water pump.

Any ideas how to do this with out getting lost on summit or ebay for hours?

Go to NAPA and look at one from a 1970 Chev Bel Aire... It should mount onto the drivers side of your stock water pump. Have them make custom lines the correct length for your application.

Good luck.

Brackets, reservoir and pulley can be pulled from an auto wrecker (i.e. Pick n' Pull) pretty cheap. You'll pay core charge without an old Pump. Reservoirs have different return line configurations depending on application. Find one that looks favorable to your set-up.

Ok

Go to a pick n pull yard and get one

That will be your cheapest option. This is where I got mine. Iirc they just changed me for the pump all the assecories were free

I went to the junk yard today and they only had newer 350's in it. Scrap metal is too high and everyone is getting rid of there old vehicles around here including junk yards. I am going to search for other yards.

You're better off with post 72 long water pump accessories. Change your water pump if it hasn't been already. As you've found already, the earlier stuff is hard to come by in the bone yard and new brackets are spendy. The early PS pump is getting hard to find too.

I like the Saginaw TC type 2 pumps there small compact and use a remote reservoir which is almost like a cooler in its self.
this is the pump i used:

you can get cheaper ones at NAPA but need a core to save any money

i went with as amall a pulley as i could find just to save room.
this is the pulley i have:

i also got a double water pump pulley and a triple crank pulley just so i have options when settin up belts
this is the bracket i bought:

and heres the reservoir i have:

like i said i looked at it like all the lines to and from the reservoir and the reservoir its self act like a cooler. but i also installed a cooler as well just cover my bases.
heres the cooler i got:

my whole PS conversion ended up costing me about $1200 when i got done with it. but totally worth it in the end!

fjnew
thanks for taking the time That was a big help. Im looking into it right now Ill let you know how it goes and try to post some picks

Alright found the power steering pump and bracket at a junk yard out of an 84 montecarlo ss and she worked like a beauty $34 I needed a 36.5" belt to connect the harmonic balancer to the PS best part of just yard all hardware included. Ill post some picks later tonight

I pulled all my stuff from the wreckers too $50 bucks ,took everything ,
I had the old short water pump stuff. Switched to later stuff.
Took alt bracket, long water pump ,all pully's, Power steering pump ,all Brackets and bolts. Bolted on fine I even used the junk yard belts for a few years.

junk yards are getting scarce with old vehicles due to the scrap metal price. Most in my area dont have much below 1990 I had to travel to find the monte carlo
