I was looking for a cheap soulution to fix my defroster on the Pig and looked at the vacum cleaner places and found nothing. Finally found some flex duct that is used for the heat riser coming off of exhaust manifolds up to the aircleaner. It is 18 inches long and 2 inches in diameter. It fits on the outside of the left hand outlets of the heater box and inside the outlet on the right side and inside the defroster tube on the left side. I had to use some tape to secure it on the left hand side but the right hand side fit nicely. They had silver and black availabe. The silver was $4 and the black $8. Just thought that I would put this up in case someone else is searching.

David I found the vaccum hose for a Rigid brand wet/dry vac worked pretty good. Its been on for about 14 years. Very durable and easy to work with. Only comes in black though.

That's what I like about this site. Sometimes you just stumble across someone's idea and say "Man, I was looking for a way to do that!".

Thanks for posting!

i used bulk hvac hosing. works well and was cheap. just barely slips over the connections. may need a screw for securing...i'll find out if i ever get the 71 up and running:rolleyes:

I've got a heater on the shelf that someone took the time to make hose flanges for, and I figured I'd copy that...IF...I ever get around to putting a heater in my rig!

Just a simple flat plate that can bolt/screw over the existing opening in the heater with a short section of round pipe welded over the opening for a generic hose to slip on to.

Other than the fact that it cannot make the sharp 90 bend that the factory hose does, it seems like a perfectly reasonable solution.

Best

Guess i'm not picturing it...you already have a short section of pipe that a generic hose can fit over on the heater:confused:

The stuff that I used was from Autozone and should be available from any supply house. On mine, the hose was flexible enough to go straght to the flanges and I didn't need to use the boots. Mine were shot.

gup, is this what you were talking about? if so, that's basically what i used.

From my build thread:

"I also replaced the defroster heaters hoses. The 2.5" shop vac hose did not fit for the heater. However, the 2.5" hose duct from Woodworkers Supply (catalog # 124718) fits great."

I do not know if the heaters are the same between the FJ55 and FJ40 though. I have some extra so if you want me to cut you a section and mail it to you let me know.
