Have you thought of a hinge stopper so that the lid doesn't get pressed against the body when it is fully open? You could probably use the stock one out of the lower lids center console and just give people a template on where to place it and anyone who buys your console can just use the stock one and it won't cost you or us anymore in hardware.

P.S. Looking Good!

Something I just thought of, I *think* I would prefer if the hinge was on the passenger side. My passenger never uses the console, it is just for me, and it has always been a bit awkward opening/closing, the way it is stock.

I like version 2.0. One thing that may come loose over long term are the tiny screws for the piano hinge. Once a location has been finalized, I think a glue of some sort may + screw do well for the long run.

As far as the locking mechanism, I like it. I mean, that's what Tuffy uses so it must be good! Since this console is lockable and may store expensive stuff, I'm concerned about the front lip. The bad guys could possibly use the lip as a leverage to force a locked lid open. Just some food for thought!

Got mine from Charles earlier in the week. Installed it and its working great so far. It's a good height upgrade compared to the FJ80 center console. I am planning to add some cushion on the top for the armrest and a set of cup holders for the rear. There was enough room on the driver side for me to mount my cb radio and speaker for my HAM.

Thanks, thats a good idea. I am not sure that it has universal appeal.

This time I did glue the hinge. on the final metal verrsion the hinge will be welded on.
As for the lock. I agree it is good. I just want to see what eals is out there.

Thats nice.

If you are going with a locking latch, I think it would be important to have a latch that will latch open or closed, with out having to engage the lock. I would want it to be latched closed while driving, so in case of an accident it wouldn't fly open and spew its contacts, but I wouldn't want to have to stop the car and remove the ignition key to get to the console key (they would be on the same key chain), just to open/close it, know what I mean? Maybe two separate mechanisms on the lid would be more economical/easier?

have the guy from the states concidered looking for a junked hdj81 for the cooler/icemaker console?

I agree.
