Does anyone have a suggestion for a fire proof pad to wedge between my White Knuckle sliders and the rolled lip of my front catalytic converter?

I have about 1/32" to 1/16" gap normally but that gap closes and allows the cat and slider to make contact during off-idle acceleration resulting in a metallic vibration/rattle sound...every time I leave a stop light. I adjusted the sliders twice and they always end up in the same place because of the 4-bolts in the front connecting directly to the frame. I tried to bend the rolled edge but it's fairly tough and I don't want to cause a leak on the cat. I don't have the means to rotate the cats either.

I pictured a chunk of silicone heater line or a wadding of exhaust wrap wedged between them but I don't think it will stay long term.

Any suggestions?

bend the lip over on the cat?

I’m thinkin my 4.5” grinder would take a wee bit off the slider since the cat really doesn’t have much sacrificial material on it.

what's the condition of your motor mounts? maybe they are collapsed and lowering things.

You can add a 1/8 spacer (washers) to the top and bottom of the exhaust cushion hanger that is behind the cats to raise them 1/4”.

I would be willing to bed his exhaust cushions in need of replacement and possibly causing the exhaust to sag.

I have white knuckle sliders and I think what you are referring to is the sheet metal heat shield that sticks down.

With slider removed, use an adjustable wrench fitted over the edge of the shield for leverage and bend the shield up and inboard.

I put up with that annoyance until I couldn’t take it anymore because installing that slider is a PITA!

Works good last long time.......

The exhaust hangers were all replaced when the sliders were installed. The noise appeared immediately and some judicial use of an iPhone and a magnet showed me the contact. :p

I thought about the grinder on the slider but that's a whole lot more work than I want to do right now. I don't know what spacing it would need to not contact any longer, lots of trial and error.

Adding spacers only lowers the cats even more.

Yup, that's the issue. I really don't want to have to pull the slider off a 3rd time. :(
So you bent that lip without any leaking then?

Getting back to anything that would wedge in there...avoiding having to remove the slider...at least for a short term solution...any options?

Yes. I don’t think it’s attatched to the heat shield that the cat is contained within. It’s separate. But, unfortunately, the slider needs to come off. Look at it like exercise.

The problem with wedging an object up in there is that it will most likely fall out eventually. Pay a neighbor kid to wrestle that slider.

Exercise...or another trip to the Chiropracter. :p

My boy took it off last time, he advised I find a neighbor kid next time it comes off as well.

I'll start with wedging some header fiberglass wrap until I muster up the gumption...or bribe money...to tackle it again.

Put a bottle jack under the exhaust and slowly raise it up. If you lift at the ends of the cats where they meet the tailpipe it should bend the tailpipe just enough to give you a bit of clearance.
The cats are not his problem. Been there done that.

That didn't look feasible, the flex was minor when I played with it.
