That's plenty of gap for the needle to open. If you adjust that, make sure you check the float level measurement again (with the gasket on). Changing one normally changes the other. Might as well set them both to spec while it's out.
 
I don't see the tab. It seems to be busticated off.

OMG. Could someone tell me which port on the Aisin carb is inlet and which is outlet. If this is the problem I'm gonna scream.
 
The inlet is the upper right. The return is the one facing the valve cover with the banjo fitting. If you switch them, it will starve for fuel.

That is a mighty shiny carb you have there.

Thanks for the shiny remark. OMG. My mechanic set the carb up backwards. Thanks so much for your reply. This, I hope, is the answer to my prayers
 
That would definitely explain it. You have to work hard to get them mixed up, so you don't run into this very often

Just returned from test drive on highway. Running like a champ. Eating a ton of gas, but I guess that's a 40. Thanks again for all your help. And a huge thanks to the community.
