Hello, all, need carb advice? I am restoring a 78 FJ40, and wondering what to do with the carb? The motor is rebuilt and have seen places to get my old one rebuilt for $300ish. If I go that route any suggestions on where? CCOT? SOR? Other? If new, which I might really be more interested in, where, every where I talk to say no dice? Can you even get a new stock carb or only aftermarket? Really want to stay stock to keep all emissions and air cleaner assembly parts as is.

Any help or info would be great, thanks!

Hi All:

No disrespect to Mark A., but for a 1978 carb I think Jim Chenwith (sp?) is the person to go to.

He is in Ohio, and I believe his shop is called "TLC Performance."

He rebuilt a 2F carbs for me and a few buddies, and we have all be happy with his work. He actually has a 2F engine that he "dynos" the rebuilt carbs on!

Good luck with your project!

Alan

No disrespect to Jim C., but if you're keeping your emissions intact, Mark is in the heart of the smog belt. He did my '78 rebuild with stunning results. Check the results at the top of the forum in my ROTW post.

You might want to get a firm price quote up front.

I do like the idea that Jim tests and tunes the rebuilds on an actual engine.

Anyone know where you can get a new one? CCOT claims to have some? Anyone have any experience with theirs new or rebuilt?

Does anyone know how to contact Jim C. I have heard nothing but praise for his work. Don't mean to rob your thread but I am interested in removing my weber and going back to stock. I have a old factory carb that I can have rebuilt.

My current rig has been completely desmoged including the evaporatoer. I have read articles about Jim and have been told he is the formost expert on proper set up for a desmoged 2f.

Thanks for letting me ride on your coat tails;)

New 2F carb

If your after a new 2F carb, I just bought one from ebay (australia) non smog version for around (300 Aust Dollar) I think. The company that originally produced them was NARDEK, & they also manufacture stock dissy's.

If anyone would like closer pics, plse let me know.

I can only assume it is a copy, as there is no AISIN stamped onto it, yet compared to my oldy, it is 100%, and cost me 50 bucks less than having the old one rebuilt.

Tackdog, Please post up a part number for that carb if you can find one. The Nardek site leaves much to be desired. http://www.nardek.com.au They list two Aisin carbs but both are for Mitsu applications. But they appear to sell brand new points dizzys. I smell a business opportunity for someone down under...

Just found this link. http://www.nardek.com.au/landcruiser.htm

They have yet to respond to my last e-mail. I'm trying to get them to tell me everything they have for Cruisers because they have a lot more than what is on the site.

Get it installed and let us know how it runs ASAP.

Carb

keep an eye on aust ebay, looking under a company called dissyparts and more . Every month or so a 2F and 3F carb will be displayed for sale. regarding NARDEK: I bought my dizzy from them, a year ago for something like $120, and have been bloody happy with their product. (Halfway through putting a petronix kit through it at the moment.)

(I'll get a pic of the serial no for the carb)

Here is the only pic I have at the moment of my Dizzy.

Hey, I didn't see anyone answer your question, so...

Jim posts as FJ40Jim here on MUD. Try sending him a pm.

Nice headers. What brand? Get that engine running so we know what to buy.

Go to CarQuest and have them look in the Tomco book, they have remanufactured ones. Tomco should be done moving their inventory and be able to get one to you soon for a decent price. That's my $.02 good luck

Brian
